High School Counselor

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

1.Must possess an Arizona State Guidance Counselor certification.

2.Degree required in area of major study.

3.Kind and amount of prior job experience required.

4.Board Alternative: Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Governing Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

5.Ability to obtain a valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card

JOB DESCRIPTION:

• Implement the district adopted Comprehensive Competency Based Guidance Curriculum (CCBG).

• Provide classroom and small group developmental activities. (e.g., self-esteem, problem-solving, decision making)

• Coordinate and facilitate the Child Study Team and the Multi Disciplinary Conference Team (MDC).

• Facilitate the introduction of students to the school community.

• Help students evaluate career interests and choices.

• Provide counseling for children on an individual basis to remediate behavioral, academic, and personal student concerns.

• Help to maintain student records and protect their confidentiality.

• Promote parents' understanding of academic progress, behavior, growth, and development issues.

• Help resolve student-teacher conflicts.

• Provide in-service training as needed.

• Consult about class interaction, student needs, and staff relationships.

• Aid in the interpretation of test results to students, parents and teachers.

• Take an active role in interpreting the school's objectives to students, parents and the community at large.

• Work closely with the school nurse in reporting cases of suspected child abuse.

• Facilitate special interest programs as needed, such as parenting groups and/or support groups.

• Other duties as may be assigned by the site administrator and/or the Director of Exceptional Student Services.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS: The School Counselor reports to the site administrator. The School Counselor will interact cooperatively with all other staff positions. All elements of good human relations will be practiced.
