Description: Baystate Academy Charter Public School (BACPS) is a college preparatory charter school in Springfield, MA providing rigorous academic standards and educational opportunities rooted in health sciences to students in grades 6 - 12. BACPS is seeking a dynamic, talented, and dedicated chemistry with a strong commitment and belief in the learning of all students.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Teach high school chemistry to students in 11th grade.

  • Plan and prepare for high-quality chemistry lessons that include lab-oriented activities and inquiry-based opportunities.

  • Integration of Next Generation Science Standards.

  • Teachers will demonstrate effective teaching practices through the use of effective questioning and discussion techniques and reflection on teaching.

  • Further develops and refines a high-level, challenging curriculum in the subject area

  • Maintains ongoing curriculum evaluation and development to meet the needs of students

  • Collaborates with other faculty in the delivery of appropriate instructional approaches and best practices, working to serve the various learning styles and needs of students

  • Implements curriculum and instruction in a manner consistent with BACPS mission statement, including understanding, modeling, and fostering independent thinking skills, creative problem solving, and abstract reasoning

  • Facilitates and mediates positive and restorative resolution of problems that might arise with students and/or parents

  • Assesses student performance continuously and objectively

  • Develops with parents and students a cooperative partnership based on mutual respect and objectivity

  • Holds parent/student/teacher conferences in a manner consistent with BACPS guidelines

  • Participates in all professional development activities

  • Participates in all staff meetings including school governance

  • Demonstrates awareness of school/community needs and initiates activities to meet those identified needs

  • May perform other projects and duties as directed by the principal

Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in applicable field of study/education from an accredited college or university

  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of the teaching and learning process and expertise in the specific content area

  • Classroom teaching experience

  • Demonstrated experience working with challenge groups in a standards-based environment, including utilizing assessments to place students, flexible pacing, flexible instruction, grouping and regrouping, acceleration, enrichment, and independent study to meet student needs

  • Demonstrated success in effectively solving challenging problems through a positive, collaborative approach

  • Bilingual English/Spanish is desirable

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to work with diverse populations

  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with students, parents, administrators, colleagues, community, and other school community staff

  • A strong sense of personal accountability for student achievement.
