JOB DESCRIPTION: Teacher, CTE HS Core Construction / Carpentry

Department: CTE

Location: Whiteville High School

Essential Duties:

  • Educational Instruction:

o Plan and deliver comprehensive and hands-on carpentry lessons in alignment with the established curriculum.

o Teach students fundamental carpentry skills, safety procedures, and industry standards.

o Facilitate practical experiences like woodworking projects to enhance students' understanding and proficiency.

  • Curriculum Development:

o Develop and update lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments to meet curriculum objectives.

o Integrate theoretical and practical aspects of carpentry into the curriculum.

o Keep abreast of advancements in the carpentry field and incorporate relevant content into lessons.

  • Safety Protocols:

o Emphasize and enforce safety protocols in the carpentry workshop.

o Instruct students on proper tool usage, equipment handling, and adherence to safety regulations.

  • Equipment Maintenance:

o Oversee the maintenance and organization of carpentry tools and equipment.

o Instruct students on the care and proper usage of tools, ensuring a safe and well-equipped learning environment.

  • Classroom Management:

o Establish and maintain a positive and organized classroom environment.

o Implement effective strategies for managing student behavior during hands-on activities.

  • Assessment and Evaluation:

o Develop and administer assessments to evaluate students' comprehension and skills.

o Provide constructive feedback on student work and offer guidance for improvement.

o Collaborate with colleagues to assess and improve program effectiveness.

  • Communication:

o Regularly communicate with students, parents, and school administrators regarding students' progress, achievements, and any concerns.

o Attend parent-teacher conferences and other school-related meetings.

  • Professional Development:

o Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with industry trends and educational best practices.

o Seek opportunities to enhance teaching skills and incorporate new technologies into the curriculum.

  • Extracurricular Activities:

o Encourage and support students in participating in carpentry-related extracurricular activities, competitions, or clubs.

Qualifications/Licensure:

Bachelor's degree in a related area and two years industry-related work.

OR

Associate's degree in a related area and four years of industry-related work experience.

OR

High School Diploma and and six years of industry-related work experience.

OSHA 10-Hour Safety - Construction required prior to teaching

  • Must complete NCCER Instructor Certified Training Program (ICTP) for continuing license*

Physical Requirements:

Work requires the ability to bend, stand, and walk in a school culinary arts laboratory for extended periods of time on a daily basis. Requires lifting and moving equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds. Manual dexterity also required.
