The Monmouth University Marjorie K. Unterberg School of Nursing and Health Studies seeks an excellent academic teacher and scholar to serve as the Hess Endowed Chair in Nursing Education with a focus on nursing education to meet the special needs of adults and senior citizens in a variety of settings. This is an exceptional opportunity to join a dedicated faculty team in a vibrant school that embraces innovative nursing and health professions education and celebrates diversity, inclusion, equity, and accessibility. This anticipated position is for the 2024-2025 academic year, with an anticipated start date of January 6, 2025.

The Hess Endowed Chair in Nursing Education reports directly to the Chief Nurse Administrator and will work closely with the Nursing Department Chair to lead and mentor faculty and students in the department. The Hess Endowed Chair in Nursing Education role focuses on nursing education to meet the special needs of adults and senior citizens in a variety of settings. The ideal candidate must be an excellent teacher and scholar who engages in innovative instructional modalities that contributes to scholarly mentorship of faculty and students. The Hess Endowed Chair in Nursing Education is expected to teach with distinction and bring recognition to the Unterberg School and Monmouth University. Candidates who apply by November 1, 2024, will be given fullest consideration. The position is open until filled.

The successful candidate will be appointed to the endowed chair for an initial three-year term. Upon evaluation and recommendation by the Advisory Committee, the incumbent may be reappointed for one or more subsequent terms. A second and any additional terms will be for five years. Renewal of an incumbent for each subsequent term will be based on review of the accomplishments and evaluation of the incumbent's performance without competition from other candidates.

The Unterberg School of Nursing and Health Studies has 38 full-time faculty, 14 staff, and close to 1,000 students. The School offers undergraduate nursing, health studies, health promotion, health and physical education; master's, and doctoral nursing programs; as well as post-graduate certificates; master's physician assistant; doctoral occupational therapy; undergraduate, and continuing education programs.

The BSN, MSN, DNP, and post-graduate APRN certificate programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

  • Eligible candidates must have an earned doctorate in nursing or a related field. If the earned doctorate is not in nursing, candidates must have a master's degree in nursing.

  • A minimum of five (5) years of full-time academic experience in nursing at the baccalaureate level or higher at the time of appointment.

  • Current New Jersey licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).

  • Demonstrated teaching excellence and innovation with full-time academic experience in nursing at the baccalaureate level or higher.

  • Holds and maintains the credential of National League for Nursing (NLN) Certified Nurse Educator (CNE).

  • Experience in curricular/program development, and/or accreditation.

  • Teaching, clinical practice, and/or research expertise in meeting the special needs of adults and/or senior citizens.

  • Experience mentoring peers, faculty, and/or students.

  • A record of scholarly achievement in scholarship, publications, and presentations.

  • A record of academic, professional, and/or community service.

  • A record of accomplishment in nursing scholarship, teaching, and service for eligibility of appointment as Associate Professor or full Professor with tenure in the Department of Nursing in the Marjorie K. Unterberg School of Nursing and Health Studies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • An earned doctorate (PhD, EdD, DNP, or equivalent).

  • Demonstrated leadership, management, or team-building experience.

  • Experience in undergraduate/graduate teaching.

  • Experience in online education.

  • Simulation-based nursing education and/or interprofessional education experience.

  • A record of commitment to diversity and equity that is evidenced across faculty, students, stakeholders, and programs.

  • Ability to meet the challenges of adult learners with diverse backgrounds.

  • External funding success.

Carry out distinctive teaching and scholarly achievement in scholarship, publications, and presentations as well as service to the Department, School, University, and profession that brings favorable recognition to the Marjorie K. Unterberg School of Nursing and Health Studies and Monmouth University.

Serve as a leader and mentor to faculty and students in the Department of Nursing.

Collaborate with the chief nurse administrator, as well as the Chair, Assistant Dean, Dean, Directors, faculty, staff, and other partners on academic programs, research, and scholarship.

Support undergraduate and graduate academic program development, implementation, evaluation, and accreditation activities.

The Endowed Chair teaching load is six (6) credit hours per semester (Fall & Spring).
