Corteva Agriscience is seeking a talented and enthusiastic weed scientist to join the Crop Protection Discovery Mode of Action Center of Expertise Group, based at our Indianapolis research and development facility. The successful candidate will use their expertise in Weed Science physiology and biochemistry to identify the target sites of novel herbicidal chemistries. The successful candidate must also be able to work in a team environment, network across scientific disciplines, and be capable of clearly communicating to a broad range of audiences.

Responsibilities:

  • Leveraging deep understanding of molecular biology, plant biochemistry, and metabolic pathways to elucidate experimental compound mode-of-action.

  • Leading design-of-experiments where you will combine in vitro, in planta and 'omics-based experiments to guide herbicide target site identification

  • Serving as an herbicide mode of action subject matter expert on multi-disciplinary teams and working within teams to develop and evaluate novel herbicidal small molecules.

  • Developing strategies to create and validate new mode of action tools.

  • Contributing to all aspects of experiments including planning, execution, analysis, and reporting.

  • Generating and clearly presenting summaries of technical results to a broad array of Crop Protection scientists and leadership.

  • Developing and implementing safety practices to ensure a safe work environment

Qualifications

Requirements:

What expertise have you grown? What do you bring to the table?

  • Ph.D. in Weed Science or related field

  • Experience in understanding and elucidating herbicide mode-of-action

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong track record of presentations and publications herbicide related fields (weed science, herbicide biochemistry)

  • Ability to work independently and drive projects to completion

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

  • Ability to successfully partner with team members and stakeholders from a variety of backgrounds

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Training in molecular biology and plant biochemistry

  • Working knowledge of chemistry

The primary responsibilities will be to design experiments, assemble complex constructs, transform and QC engineered microbial strains, and screen for productivity using automated laboratory equipment. The new team member will also work closely with senior scientists on new technology evaluations, bioinformatics data analyses, and ideation for new hypotheses. Requirements: What expertise have you grown? What do you bring to the table? * Contribute to data analysis, new hypotheses generation and ideation. * Lead design of experiments to generate constructs, transform and QC microbial strains, screen and troubleshoot. * Evaluation of new techniques and technologies in strain engineering. * Captures experimental data in electronic notebook and shares findings in written reports. * Maintains a high level of communication and focus on delivering results. Qualifications Requirements: What expertise have you grown? What do you bring to the table? * M.S. degree in Molecular Biology, Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, or related field. * 2+ years of relevant post-M.S. degree experience. * In depth experience with molecular biology tools and experience with microbial strain engineering. * Experience with cutting-edge cloning methods such as Golden Gate, In-Fusion, and TAR assembly. * Solid knowledge of state-of-the-art bioinformatics and molecular biology software tools. * Excellent working knowledge of molecular biology software e.g. Geneious, Vector NTI, and Sequencher, as well as proven ability to learn new software tools. * Proficiency with aseptic technique. * Work effectively in a collaborative environment with other scientists and technicians to achieve research goals. * Proven ability to document own research findings. Preferred Qualifications: * Experience working with Actinomycetes and knowledge of microbial physiology. * Experience to operate state-of-the-art, automated laboratory instruments. * Metabolic modeling for productivity.
