As one of the most innovative companies in the world, FMC is looking for a Scientist in the Herbicide Discovery Biology group at our Stine research facility in Newark, Delaware. The mission of the Herbicide Discovery group is to discover new herbicide active ingredients qualified for commercial development. Research Investigator identifies, assesses and develops new scientific concepts and/or technologies to provide solutions to identified problems. He/she manages technical projects, coordinating with other professionals across varying disciplines and support personnel to accomplish objectives. He/she defines scientific approach to problems, develops hypotheses, tests them to lead projects to logical conclusions.


The Research Investigator provides strong biological technical results and leadership to Herbicide Discovery process. The Herbicide Discovery Research Investigator generates extensive biological results through a series of tiered screens and special tests, interprets and reports the results and works closely with synthesis chemists, biochemists and environmental scientists in a team environment to optimize lead area chemistry. Development, validation and implementation of new screens also complements these activities.

The successful Research Investigator should have a good understanding of current and evolving weed control practices in multiple market regions and crops and will apply this knowledge to the assessment of new herbicide active ingredients. The Research Investigator will generate greenhouse and field biological results and integrate this information with mode of action, environmental fate, crop and weed metabolism and other topics generated by others on the team to discover superior new product candidates. The position calls for active networking with FMC regional field development specialists and marketing teams as well as strong interactions with the academic weed/crop science communities.

Required Education

Qualified candidates will have a Ph.D in a relevant scientific area such as Weed Science, Agronomy, or Plant Physiology with 4-5 years agronomic experience.


  • Experience in developing research programs which are technically demanding and effectively integrate critical technologies to apply new technologies broadly

  • Experience in operating in an unstructured environment and define novel research approaches to complex scientific or technical problem

  • Strict observance and adherence to required and approved safety procedures

  • Familiarity with organic chemistry nomenclature and physical properties, agrichemical site of action and/or soil science, as well as skills in data management, modeling, visualization and interpretation are strong positives.

  • Knowledge of practical weed control, herbicide resistance mechanisms, and agricultural experience is also highly desirable.

  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective networks to accomplish work

  • Experience in working as an individual and as an effective team player

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Experience in effectively supervising others

  • Experience in effectively mentoring other employees

The Legal eDiscovery Operations team consists of IT and Legal Technology professionals who fulfill discovery requests from Litigation and Compliance, and provide enterprise guidance, strategy and services for the management of ESI preservation and collection across data formats. The eDiscovery Associate will resolve, and/or coordinate confidential Legal, Compliance, and HR related Preservation, Collection and/or Investigation requests. We are seeking a self-motivated, organized, team oriented person to act as an eDiscovery Operations associate. The Associate will be responsible for meticulously performing custodial research and data source identification, conducting searches against messaging/archiving systems for the purpose of preservation and/or collection of data, and securely transferring data over to Legal, Compliance, and HR within pre-defined Service Level Agreements / turnaround times. The individual(s) in this role should be familiar with a variety of electronic communications platforms (eComm) e.g. MS Exchange, Enterprise Vault, Lotus Notes, Assentor, Digital Safe as well as have general IT troubleshooting and request fulfillment experience. Key Responsibilities: * Support the continuous improvement of eDiscovery operational processes globally, including request processing, research, preservation, collection, disposition, delivery, and quality control * Support and execute data hygiene and disposition efforts with key technology partners * Reconcile restored data and coordinate hand off to Legal case teams * Draft and/or review process management documentation * Provide references for users by writing and maintaining user documentation * Support audit-related operational activities * Work in collaboration with IT, Business Areas and Legal to identify opportunities where value-added services, process improvement and systems can provide significant business benefit * Drive project and initiatives to resolution / completion * Act as central contact for special projects and non-standard data sources * Maintain organized updates and matter/project notes and documentation * Self-Quality Checking of own work product Anticipate client needs and understand and proactively address questions * Communicate issues and problems to case teams, manage expectations and track to resolution * Manage different stages of discovery, focusing specifically on identifying, preserving, and collecting recorded voice data stored in multiple technology systems.
