Position Overview

The Helpdesk Technician supports the Christian culture of Nelson University by providing the first point and primary point of contact for network users to obtain information or assistance with Information Technology services.

Major Responsibilities

  • Represent the Christian culture of the University to students, employees and guests.

  • Manage the appearance, professionalism and cleanliness of the reception area.

  • Be the default first responder for phone calls.

  • Be the default first responder for evaluating submitted work orders and assigning them appropriately.

  • Assist in distributing work order loads so all techs have fair and balanced workloads.

  • Follow up on random samples of completed work orders to survey customer satisfaction on quality and speed of resolution.

  • Answer basic technical and support questions.

  • Assist the Senior Director with communications, research, and reporting.

  • Maintain a welcoming presence in the front office for assisting walk-in questions and directing them to other technicians as required.

Organizational Relationships

Reports to the Senior Director and Campus Software Director.

Qualifications

  • Faith, service and lifestyle that meets University expectations (See IPM sections: "Statement of Core Values," "Doctrinal Statement," "Christian Standards," "Lifestyle Standard.")

  • Good professional communication skills including: problem-solving, adaptability, detail-oriented, patience, empathy, and active listening.

  • Positive, professional appearance, and skills for handling issues with customers.

  • Ability and willingness to learn technical terms and troubleshooting concepts.

  • Comfortable with computers, end point devices, and IT technologies.
