The primary purpose of this position is to perform inspections of completed repair work accomplished on vehicles by Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanics to determine that the physical and operating characteristics are within acceptable standards, specifications, or other requirements; certifies that vehicles are ready to be returned to use.

Accomplishes quality assurance inspections on completed repairs of heavy mobile and general purpose vehicles to ensure repairs have been done correctly including all annual, scheduled inspections, brake-related repairs to prevent any safety problems.
Debriefs customers/vehicle operators and performs incoming inspections on special purpose type vehicles and equipment as well as on general purpose vehicles.
Performs heavy mobile equipment and automotive mechanic work including troubleshooting malfunctions, determining the type and extent of repair required, repairing, and maintaining equipment
Utilizes established practices, procedures, and regulations regarding safety, security, and environmental issues; maintains safe and clean work environment;
participates in assigned shop upkeep efforts; completes all required reports, forms, work orders, inspection and certification forms, and time sheets; and participates in productivity measurement studies, evaluations, and assessments.
Establishes and maintains good working relationships. Creates an atmosphere of partnership with customers, properly reflecting organizational policies and procedures.

THE HOURLY RATE FOR THIS POSITION IS: $29.57 TO $34.48 PER HOUR
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the 5800 - TRANSPORTATION/MOBILE EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE FAMILY, WG-5803-11-HEAVY MOBILE EQUIPMENT REPAIR INSPECTOR . Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1.THE ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF A HEAVY MOBILE EQUIPMENT REPAIR INSPECTOR WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION.
2.Knowledge of technical practices, procedures, repairs, maintenance, and services performed on a variety of heavy mobile equipment/special purpose and automotive vehicles including major systems and subsystems such as diesel, multi-fue1 and gasoline engines; automatic and manual transmissions; multi-gear assemblies; electronic fuel injection; emission control; air conditioning systems and cooling systems; related electronic, hydraulic, fuel, air and other component assemblies; and a variety of positioning systems.
3.Knowledge of a variety of test equipment such as engine analyzers, dynamometers, diagnostic tachometers and other equipment required for performing work, troubleshooting and diagnosing mechanical problems, analyzing malfunctions, and determining the extent of necessary repairs.
4.Knowledge of safety practices and procedures; the use of personal protection equipment; safe use and maintenance of hand and power tools and other common-to-the-trade equipment and machinery; proper handling and disposal of hazardous material and waste products such as petroleum, oil and lubricant products; standard housekeeping practices for maintaining a clean and safe working environment; and in security for facilities, tools and equipment.
5.Skill in selecting the proper service manuals, technical orders, diagrams, and schematics; reading, interpreting, and applying instructions, specifications, and similar guides to properly service, repair and modify equipment.
6.Ability to complete work with little or no supervision including performing quality assurance inspections to determine if the physical and operating characteristics of repaired equipment are within acceptable standards, specifications, or other requirements that the vehicles can be released for use..
7.Ability to communicate orally and legibly in writing.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
