We are a heavy civil construction firm seeking to fill a Heavy Highway Carpernters for a construction project located in the Roanoke/Lynchburg area of Virginia. The primary responsibility is to construct, erect, install, and repair structures by performing the following duties.
Builds rough structures (concrete forms and scaffolds);
Nails braces across boards to construct concrete supporting forms; braces forms with timbers, tie rods, and anchor bolts;
Marks and shapes materials to prescribed measurements;
Constructs forms for placing concrete;
Erects scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground level;
Welds metal parts to steel structural members;
Erects built-in-place forms or assembles and installs prefabricated forms on construction site according to blueprint specifications, using hand tools, plumb rule, and level;
Anchors and braces forms to fixed objects, using nails, bolts, anchor rods, steel cables, planks, and timbers.
May erect, climb, and work on scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground level at heights up to 100 feet or below ground level down to 50 feet;
May be required to use body harness or other fall protection.
Ability to read safety rules and instructions in the use & maintenance of equipment & tools
Must be knowledgeable about and follow the company's safety policy and procedures.
Must adhere to all safety regulations and procedures and work harmoniously and cooperatively with others at all times.

Clean driving record
Builds structures according to sketches, blueprints, or oral instructions, and examines specifications to determine dimensions of structure.
Works both indoors and mainly outdoors.
Environment can be dirty and noisy.
Wears appropriate protective clothing and equipment including gloves, ear protection and respirators when necessary.
Lifting up to 50 LBS.
Stands frequently and walks about the work areas
Occasionally stretches up and across when completing daily tasks
Squatting, crouching or kneeling may be required occasionally.
Twisting the body or neck may be required occasionally.
Bending is occasionally required to facilitate the lifting of items used daily
Contact with skin irritants or water may occur during certain processes
Repetitive hand and arm movements are required when operating machinery.

Normally Expected Education and/or Practical Experience
Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); completion of apprenticeship program or related experience and/or training.
Mathematics: Must have ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in units of measure.
Problem Solving: Must be able to apply common sense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions; ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
