Essential Functions and Other Important Duties
Essential Functions:
Performs maintenance and repair on heavy-duty vehicles, including landfill equipment
Keeps accurate records of all P.M. services and repairs
Follows extensive heavy equipment preventative maintenance schedules
Performs mechanical work on a variety of heavy equipment (gasoline, diesel, and fuel injected vehicles)
Performs advanced diagnostics using specialized laptop software such as CAT ET, Cummins Insite and International Service Maxx
Performs complete chassis repairs including suspensions, steering, wheel bearings, etc.
Performs complete brake system repairs, replaces brake drums, rotors, shoes, pads, etc.
Performs complete fuel, electrical and cooling system repairs
Performs routine preventive maintenance including fluid level checks and oil sampling
Diagnoses and repairs transmissions
Maintains regular and punctual on-site attendance
Job Requirements
Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency:
High School Diploma or GED equivalency
Four (4) years of experience in heavy equipment mechanical repair and industry accepted practices performing preventative maintenance and repair services
OR

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Ability to form and maintain effective relationships with coworkers and customers
Skill in diagnosing equipment malfunctions
Knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic and electrical systems
Knowledge of procedures and skills to operate equipment and tools used in diagnostics, repair and maintenance of motorized landfill heavy equipment
Preferences:
Bilingual in Spanish and English
Master ASE Certified
Completion of an accredited truck and heavy equipment technical school
Skill in using advanced, computerized diagnostic equipment for repairs, services and maintenance
Associate's degree in a related field
Five (5) years of experience in repair of hydraulic systems/components
Conditions of Employment:
Must possess a valid Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) and a good driving record OR Must possess a valid Class C driver license with a good driving record and the ability to obtain a Class B CDL within six (6) months of employment.
Must pass a drug test, driver's license check, social security number verification, and criminal history background check
Must obtain 6 National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certifications within one year of employment
Must pass a physical examination
Must have own hand tools
Must be able to work a schedule of Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Must be able to work overtime and emergency call-in, as needed or determined by the business need of the department
