Must be currently enrolled in a Miami-Dade County Public Schools diesel systems technician 1800-hour vocational program or must enroll within 30 days of hire. Must be able to lift and handle items weighing up to 50 lbs. Must possess and maintain a valid driver s license.

Overview of the Position
We are excited to announce an apprenticeship opportunity for Heavy Equipment Technician with the Internal Services Department, Fleet Management Division. We are seeking motivated individuals who are eager to start their career as a Heavy Equipment Technician which is responsible for diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on heavy truck and diesel engine and performing repairs and maintenance, while working efficiently with minimal vehicle maintenance downtime. The incumbent in this position will have the benefit of on-the-job training from an experienced technician in conjunction with their vocational program education to enhance their skills and knowledge.
Department Overview
ISD provides a wide range of internal support services for the ongoing operation of County government which focuses on promoting operational best practices and efficient government operations. ISD provides various customer-based business services that include, but not limited to facility management, design and construction management, fleet management, risk management, surplus property disposition services, capital inventory management, and large-scale printing services. Through these various business lines, ISD is engaged in real estate development and management, Americans with Disabilities Act compliance, elevator regulation, materials management, and parking services.
