Heavy Equipment Operators

  • Earthwork

Heavy Equipment Operators will have experience operating equipment such as scrapers, excavators, blades, compactors, skid steers, and dozers in all commercial and heavy highway earthwork applications.

General Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To:

  • Perform daily equipment checks and basic maintenance.

  • Schedule proper maintenance for all equipment with superintendent and shop management.

  • Continually survey work site for potential hazards or safety concerns.

  • Operate all equipment efficiently and safely following directions of foreman/superintendent.

  • Perform a variety of tasks and duties that may change often as the work conditions require.

  • Work within defined standards of accuracy.

  • Perform all other duties as assigned.


  • Ability to use arms and hand to reach for, handle and manipulate objects.

  • Ability to do physical labor and other strenuous physical tasks.

  • Good communication skills to work effectively and safely.

  • Ability to work overtime, as required.

R.J. Corman Railroad Services is currently seeking full-time Heavy Equipment Operators/Laborers for our Wichita Division in Wellington, KS. Accountability: Operates and performs preventative maintenance and minor repair of heavy equipment. Operation and equipment knowledge at a well-developed level is required. Responsibilities: * Operates Heavy or Specialized equipment. (i.e. Tripp Mach, Mark IV Tamper, TKO, Regulator, M320, Trackhoe, Dozer, Crane, etc.) * Demonstrate experienced operation and equipment knowledge. * Performs preventative maintenance on heavy or specialized equipment. * May assist with supervision of small crew as necessary. * Maintains proper equipment appearance and cleanliness. * May perform labor duties as needed. * Communicates with supervisor throughout the job process. * Basic mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot simple mechanical failures. * Practices safe working habits. * Ensures working conditions are safe and that proper PPE is being used as job duties require. Minimum Requirements * Live within 45 minutes of the shop (984 East 10th St Wellington, KS 67152). * Possess a current CDL A and DOT medical card. * Extensive travel is required. FMCSA Clearinghouse registration will be required for CDL candidates in order to provide electronic consent for pre-employment queries. Registration can be completed at R.J. Corman Wichita KS
