Job Description: This position, based in Yankton, SD, is responsible for operating heavy equipment in a safe and effective manner. This is a skilled position involving the operation of various types of construction equipment including but not limited to loaders, back hoes, track hoes, excavator, etc.

Responsible for operating heavy equipment in a safe and effective manner. This is a skilled position involving the operation of various types of construction equipment including but not limited to Loaders, Back Hoes, Track Hoes, Excavator, Maintainer, etc.

  • Operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently.

  • Responsible for safe slopes on excavations and proper barricading.

  • Locate utilities and other buried lines prior to digging.

  • Perform minor servicing and maintenance.

  • Evaluate and recommend equipment improvements to improve availability, capability, and yield.

  • Prepare equipment failure analysis as needed;

  • Troubleshoots equipment problems and escalates the most complex problems to higher levels

  • Prepare technical reports to document equipment modifications and equipment maintenance procedures

  • Keep time and material records.

  • Travel from interstate highway to rural dirt roads from various locations.

  • May assist Laborer at various job sites as needed. May perform physical tasks involved with laying pipe and utility lines, and/or tasks involved with road construction and laying asphalt, etc.

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.

  • 1-3 years' direct equipment operating experience required and 1 year of pipeline, construction or related experience preferred.

  • Valid driver's license required, CDL license preferred

  • Knowledge of trenching and shoring standards

  • Availability for overnight travel to various job sites is required

  • 80% travel is expected

This person will also act as the assistant physical plant manager to ensure facilities and services meets the needs of clients, customers and fellow staff members in an efficient, economical and safe fashion. The person chosen for this position will work alongside and directly supervise 6-7 employees in a variety of maintenance trade areas. Working hours for this position are primarily Monday through Friday 8:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. with an on call rotation but may vary according to needs of the facility. Applicants that possess skills in carpentry, general construction, door, window, millwork, and lock repair are preferred and encouraged to apply. Ability to: * promote a positive work environment and open communication with hospital staff; * gather input from employees and come up with solutions; * accept change and promote changes to other staff; * promote train and practice safety in the workplace; * assess the needs for repairs or preventive maintenance of physical plant facilities and to develop plans for these projects; * read and interpret blueprints and construction plans; * accurately estimate building costs and material requirements; * operate construction equipment, power tools, heavy machinery and snow removal equipment; * operate computers; * supervise employees; * establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; * multi-task when there are multiple projects taking place at the same time; * monitor contractor performance to ensure compliance with contractor requirements and acceptability of work; * pay special attention to detail.
