Lehigh Hanson is looking for a qualified Heavy Equipment Mechanic.

The Mechanic will repair and maintain mobile mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment, such as bulldozers, front-end loaders, trucks, cranes, and graders used in quarry operations.

  • Perform diesel and gasoline engine repairs and diagnose and perform power train component repairs

  • Inspect equipment for proper functional use and perform preventative maintenance duties per manufacturer's specifications.

  • Troubleshoot and perform hydraulic system repairs

  • Perform specialized component repairs such as hydraulic and mechanical drives

  • Make minor repairs including welding and cutting

  • Knowledge of truck air brake systems and ability to diagnose and repair problems

  • Ability to read, understand and apply all schematics, drawings, technical applications and logic

  • Maintain, repair, troubleshoot, install and replace all mechanical electrical and electronic equipment related to mobile equipment, stationary engines and associated equipment

  • Maintain proper tool/parts inventory for specified jobs.

  • Complete maintenance projects in a timely manner to ensure production goals.

  • Maintain up to date written or data input spreadsheets on all equipment repairs.

  • Ensure that all equipment repairs are performed accurately to the manufacturer standards.

  • Performs other miscellaneous mechanical and maintenance duties as assigned.

  • Work with outside contractors on special projects as required

  • Basic computer skills required

This position will be based in San Diego.


  • High School diploma or equivalent

  • Formal technical training preferred

  • At least five years' experience as a mechanic with welding background in a related industry; strong electrical background a definite plus.

  • Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics and mechanical moving parts (chains, bearings and rollers).

  • Experienced in Preventative Maintenance Programs

  • Must have own hand tools

  • Must be able to diagnoses equipment malfunctions and makes repairs and/or adjustments as needed.

  • Able to work all shifts

  • Experience with loaders, dozers, and cranes preferred
