Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Forklift Mechanic will diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair forklift fleet. Mechanic will perform routine maintenance and general mechanic work on equipment. Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for extensive and complex repairs. Ideal candidate can do mid-level mechanic duties, including: routine PM service, changing cylinders, exhaust, diagnostics, motor, and hydraulic systems.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Forklift mechanic providing maintenance for MEI fleet of forklifts (including electric and internal combustion forklifts and rough terrain telescopic forklifts)
Determines forklift condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests, identifying worn and damaged parts.
Keeps equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules, installing component and part upgrades; controlling corrosion; completing winterization procedures.
Verifies forklift performance by conducting tests, adjusting controls and systems.
Maintains forklift records by annotating services and repairs.
Contains costs by using warranty, evaluating service and parts options.
Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.
Enhances maintenance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value.
Help keep repair shop clean and organized. Complete housekeeping duties in assigned area or project area daily and/or when required.
Complete required paperwork.
Identify problems using diagnostic equipment and skills.
Explain repairs and issues and provide great customer service.
Plan repair procedures using charts manuals and experience.
Test the functionality of parts and systems.
Perform basic care and maintenance tasks such as oil changes, fluid level checks.
Repair and replace brake pads, wheel bearings, sensors, and other parts.
Perform other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (Experience, Skills, and Education)
HS Diploma or GED equivalent
Minimum two (2) years proven forklift mechanic experience
Prepared to get additional certification as needed.
Willingness to learn with hands-on training.
Preferred Qualifications (Experience, Skills, and Education)
Construction industry experience
Basic knowledge of operating equipment (Forklifts, man lifts, mobile platform lifts, etc.)
Ability to use precision measuring tools and equipment, hand, power, and pneumatic tools
Engine repair experience or auto mechanic training required.
Hold a valid driver license.
Must read, interpret, and transcribe data to maintain accurate records.
Perform routine maintenance and other tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to use the diagnostic equipment.
Good hand-eye coordination.
