Heavy Duty Truck Parts Salesperson

Primary, this position is responsible for retail and wholesale sales of medium and heavy-duty truck parts and accessories.  Sales are conducted in person or over the phone to determine customer needs and inform the customer of the available options and pricing.  Product knowledge is paramount to success in this position. The secondary responsibility of this position is to maintain the company’s established customer base and develop new customers on existing sales routes.

• Operating a cash register, computer, and paper cataloging systems.
• Determine and obtain heavy duty parts for customers as requested by phone or in person. Suggest sale of related parts for full service.
• Locate and obtain ordered part for customer from warehouse or vendor.
• Determine sales price for customers for each sale in accordance with company procedure.
• Handle part returns for customers in accordance with company procedure.
• Special order parts on an emergency basis when necessary and appropriate.
• Process approved credits for customer when merchandise is returned.
• Maintain confidentiality of pricing lists and structures as required by company procedure.
• Answer customers’ questions about products, prices, and availability, warranty, and product features.
• Provide customers with product literature.
• Utilize non-selling, non-servicing time by studying catalogs, bulletins, changes, additions, deletions, stocking, and other inventory duties.
• Ensure that counter parts area is clean and in order. Ensure that display areas encourage sales.

Requirements

Workdays are Monday through Friday from 8am to 5 pm and every other Saturday. Occasionally, you may need to lift or carry parts that weigh more than 75 lbs. The majority of lifting and carrying will involve parts between 5 and 60 lbs, so nothing too heavy! You'll be spending most of your work time in a comfortable, heated or air-conditioned facility or in a delivery vehicle. However, there may be times when you'll need to climb over, crawl under, or brave various weather conditions to check out the parts on equipment outside. To ensure your safety, we strongly recommend that you wear OSHA approved steel toe safety shoes for this position. Your well-being is our top priority!

Education

• A High School Diploma (or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate) is a basic requirement.
• Having knowledge of heavy duty cataloging and/or inventory management systems would be advantageous.
• An ASE Heavy Duty Parts Certification would be beneficial.

Professional Experience

• Minimum of 2 years experience in technical sales or heavy-duty truck parts preferred.
