Remove, disassemble and repair gasoline or diesel engines and components. Repair components by replacing worn or damaged parts with new or reconditioned parts, grinding, fitting, balancing, or arranging for welding or machining. Reassemble, adjust and test repaired units for proper operation.
Perform preventive maintenance inspections and special maintenance to comply with FMCSA regulations.
Issue requested parts to mechanics and others working on equipment. Bill to proper equipment in the fleet maintenance system. Maintain required paperwork to include purchase orders, garage repair orders and work orders.
Order correct parts and supplies. Research as needed to find sources for proper parts or materials. Contact vendors by phone, fax, e-mail or at vendors location. Record placed order in computerized database. Perform weekly inventory, ordering and stocking parts.
Process purchasing card statements, packing slips, invoices, bills of lading, returns/exchanges, warranty, etc.
Assist internal customers with questions and certain problems related to repair or maintenance of equipment. Refer to Lead Mechanics or Fleet Supervisor or Fleet Manager as needed.
Adhere to all established safety policies and standards to include identification, use, and proper procedures for handling or disposal of hazardous wastes.
Perform all assigned responsibilities and tasks. Communicate with subordinates, supervisors, customers, vendors and any other persons or organization with whom interaction is required to accomplish work and employer goals.
Core Skills and Qualifications:
The ideal candidate must possess all of the following:
Demonstration of minimum proficiency with the English language in order to ensure effective new hire training and on-going communications about safety and quality issues
Ability to work overtime as needed
Ability to work weekends as needed
Ability to respond to a short notice call-in and adjusting your schedule as needed
Meet Department of Transportation requirements and possess a valid Class A Commercial Drivers Licence (CDL).
Must maintain an insurable driving record.
Five (5) years current documented automotive mechanic experience related to commercial motor vehicles (truck tractors and trailers).
Ability to provide a full compliment of personal hand tools.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Basic math skills.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, Excel, Word and Outlook.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Power Industrial Truck Operations (PITO) certification.
Solve complex maintenance problems by interpreting layout drawings, specifications, schematics, diagrams, and operating characteristics of vehicles and components.
Operate standard/manual transmission.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
Technical, vocational or military education applicable to vehicle maintenance.
