We are looking for dedicated individuals to join our dynamic and exciting team. In this position you will work on-site at one or more hospital locations to screen newborns for medical disorders that may occur in or after the newborn phase.

As a newborn hearing screener, you will provide hearing screens in the hospital to babies who may be just a few days old. You need great communication skills as well as the interest and ability to learn; we will provide you with the rest of the training you need to succeed.

On a typical day, you will conduct newborn hearing screens, usually in a new mom's hospital room, and help educate parents about the importance of the screen using video and printed tools we provide. You will also be in charge of entering patient data and validation of hearing screens, as needed. Additional responsibilities may include helping to confirm or reschedule outpatient appointments, following up on any equipment issues and training new staff.


  • Performing newborn hearing screens

  • Verifying insurance information with parent/guardian

  • Documenting hearing screen results accurately

  • Following protocol for timely submission of billing

  • Following protocol related to security and identification of infants

  • Following infection control, safety awareness and other hospital, company, and program policies

  • Recognizing potential problems and obtaining assistance, when necessary, in a timely manner

  • Completion of company and hospital orientation or classes, including patient privacy training

  • Completion and maintenance of employee health requirements

  • Other duties as assigned


  • Experience working with infants preferred

  • Experience in a hospital setting preferred

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Computer proficiency and ability to perform accurate data entry

  • Ability to prioritize daily tasks and assignments

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

  • Flexibility to work on weekends and national holidays required

  • Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

  • Ability to stand and walk frequently (95% of shift)

  • Ability to push/pull up to 100 pounds frequently

Education Level: High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

Experience Years: One to three months related experience

Experience Industry: Healthcare

Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience will be considered.

Essential Responsibilities: 1. Super-Serve and Always Exceed the Customer's Expectations. Patient satisfaction is the focus of every task performed, by every associate. 2. For patients with Telehealth appointments, TeleHealth Specialists will be required to assist patients through the remote eye exam process. 3. Conducts pre-testing and specialized testing for tele-optometric exams, utilizing the following equipment: * Pre-testing I- preliminary case history including current Medical History and Ocular Health. * Pre-testing II - Autorefraction, Lensometry, tonometry, and topography. * Special testing - visual fields, fundus photography, video slit lamp photography, Optos image scan. 4. Telehealth Specialist is responsible for assisting patients through the remote eye exam. Responsibilities include: * Completing patient registration, gathering and submitting pertinent patient information including Medical History and Ocular Health data. * Assigning patients to Remote Technician and Remote Doctor * Transmitting results from all pre-test instruments to secure server * Initiate Remote Technician and Remote Doctor video conferencing * Assit Remote Doctor and Remote Technician with refraction equipment placement and interacting with patients during Refraction * Printing prescriptions, escorting patients to sales floor and Transitions patient for eyewear and contact lens purchase. 5. Retrieves patient records to ensure complete information on file before appointment date. 6. Ensure efficient patient flow by effectively communicating with team members and providers. 7. Conducts proper cleaning and operation of all equipment 8. Computer System & Equipment Operation - accurate data entry, accurate Pre-testing operation and maintenance of devices 9. Ensure proper completion of the patient information on the Patient History form including the waivers and required signature in section #2 according to the established Telemedicine record requirements 10. Performing opening and close-out procedures according to the Telemedicine equipment operational standards 11. Participate in TeleHealth Specialized training of all responsibilities assigned to the TeleHealth Specialists 12. When not functioning as the Telehealth Specialist the associate will assume the duties of an Optical Assistant 13. Maintain effective comunications and partnering with the General Mananger. 14. Adhere to privacy and confidential and proprietary company policies and procedures (i.e. HIPAA) 15. Participate in any/all training and educational activities necessary to fulfill at least the minimum requirements as specified within your departmental goals. This is in addition to, the completion of any activities necessary for the maintenance of professional affiliations or organizational requirements 16. Diligently maintain the cleanliness of all equipment, workstations and the overall facility on a daily basis 17. As required by changing business needs, complete additional responsibilities as assigned * High school diploma or equivalent.
