OverviewThe Healthy Living Coach is responsible for conducting coaching sessions and setting goals with members seeking a healthy lifestyle. Through individual empathetic listening, on-going communication and support and person-centered guidance and accountability, the Healthy Living Coach will help lead members toward a sustainable healthy lifestyle.Responsibilities * Contribute to the overall YMCA mission of healthy living, youth development and social responsibility. * Provides accountability to members by scheduling appointments, reminder phone calls and follow-up. * Work with welcome center to ensure that all potential members are informed about Coaching Connection and all new members are invited to enroll * Introduce members to the wide variety of programs and services offered by the Y that can support them in reaching their wellness goals and connect them to other Y staff and members to fully engage them in the Y* Conduct equipment orientations as needed * Work with Y members in a wellness coaching program to guide them toward personal wellness*
  • Identify current stages of change and motivations for change in a variety of wellness behaviors * Develop personal wellness goal and set of strategies to work towards goals * Provide on-going support through weekly coaching sessions * Provide accountability tools to members through personal progress tracking and direct follow up * Educate and expose numbers to various wellness strategies based on personal goals and motivation * Maintains a safe, clean, well organized area and provide safe instruction in all areas of work by following the Y and national certification guidelines. * Maintain attendance records and reports. * Be a team player with all associates. * Responsible for staying current with the center announcements and information. * Must notify appropriate staff of any unsafe conditions, needed repairs, complaints, accidents, or injuries immediately. * Responsible for cleaning of exercise equipment on a regular basis. * Assist members as needed on the wellness floor.Qualifications * Degree from an accredited college or university; or National accredited certification; or two years proven experience. Must be in health, health promotion, personal health counseling, nutrition, and/or other health/fitness related field * Current First Aid and Adult CPR certification. * Able to relate and work with diverse groups of people at all levels of health and wellness * Able to reflect a positive attitude. * Demonstrated knowledge of physical activity and nutritional recommendations for adults * Demonstrated understanding of exercise and strength training equipment * Strong skills in interpersonal communication, teamwork and group collaboration * Able to inspire and motivate program participants. * Demonstrated ability to use Google docs and computers * Able to exercise high levels of discretion and confidentiality. * Able to work a flexible schedule.

Responsibilities The Lifestyle Coach will provide support and guidance to participants in the YMCA's Blood Pressure Monitoring Program and implement standard curriculum designed for the program. This is a part-time role, but must be willing to be flexible based on the program participants availability. We are seeking a bi-lingual English/Spanish speaking Lifestyle coach. Grant funded position. * Deliver curriculum to class participants in effective, meaningful and compelling ways. * Encourage group participation and interaction using open-ended questions. * Facilitate commitment and retention of participants. * Create a motivating environment that is friendly and non-competitive. * Foster relationships with and between participants. * Make learning a shared responsibility for the group. * Ability to deliver structured presentations and lead group discussions. * Provide accessibility to participants both before and after sessions to answer questions and follow-up on any questions you cannot answer during class time. * Support and encourage goal setting on a weekly basis. * Schedule that allows for flexibility to facilitate Office Hours and Nutrition Education. * Record weekly data for each participant Enter data electronically within 48 hours of the class or Office Hours. * Ability to provide regular personalized contact with participants for 16 weeks (4 months) to encourage self-monitoring of blood pressure, and attending nutrition education seminars via phone, email or text. * Arrive for class, office hours and seminars on time and dressed appropriately. * Participate in all Lifestyle Coach Team discussions (meetings, emails or conference calls). Offer ideas and tools for facilitation to the coach team and remain engaged with the team at all times. * Attend community events to promote the program and recruit participants. * Communicate within and external to the YMCA via online tools and social media to support ongoing growth of the BPSM program. * Comply with all HIPAA requirements. Qualifications * Must be bilingual * Associates degree from an accredited college or university or the equivalent experience in related field of health, fitness or nutrition. * Three years of experience in a related field. * Must have current certifications in: * First Aid * CPR (Adult) * Must be able to relate and work with diverse groups of people in a friendly and consistent manner. * The ability to build community within a group. * Must be detail oriented with good organizational skills. * Excellent oral and written communication skills. * Able to demonstrate high levels of discretion and confidentiality. * Must have strong communication and relationship building skills. * An understanding of behavior change required. * Knowledge of basic health, nutrition, and fitness strongly preferred. * Basic level of proficiency with commonly used office tools such as word, spreadsheets, online email and online calendars. * Experience with Listen First or motivational interviewing strongly preferred. * Able to work effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders (physicians, public health officials, employers, administrators and health seekers) * Must have reliable transportation.
