Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse (eICU RN), provides accurate interpretation of cardiac rhythms of an assigned patient population through continuous cardiac monitoring surveillance. This position generates, reads, and interprets monitor strip print-outs based on individual patient need/patient rhythm changes, promptly communicates changes in cardiac rhythms or dysrhythmias to the appropriate member of the health care team per unit protocol. Performs general clerical and administrative duties under the direction of the eICU RN, including electronic patient information management, data collection, data input, forms management, processing of admissions/discharges/transfers and department communication.

This position supports the Central Monitoring department by fulfilling the duties of a Monitor Technician, as well as working as support staff in the eICU.

Education / Licensure / Certification:

  • High School Diploma required, or equivalent education and experience.

  • EKG Interpretation course and/or successful testing of cardiac rhythm interpretation ore equivalent education and experience required.

  • Electrocardiogram Certification (EKG) required within 120 days of start of employment.

Experience:

  • Previous clerical staff experience in an acute care environment preferred.

  • Previous clerical staff experience in a critical care unit preferred.

  • Previous experience working in an acute care facility as a Monitor Technician, Unit Secretary, or Nurse Aide preferred.

  • Previous experience and operation competency working with computers with multiple applications required.

Skills / Knowledge:

  • Working knowledge of the use of and maintenance of office and computer equipment is required.

  • Basic working knowledge of spreadsheets adn word processing aplications (preferably Excel, Word, MS Office) and other office related software application is required.

  • Knowledge of legal policies, patient confidentiality, and privacy is preferred.

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple demands in an ever changing dynamic environment with attention to detail, effective organizational skills and data entry accuracy is required.

  • Ability to work effectively among other heath care team members is required.

  • English written and verbal communication skills is required.

  • Proficiency with Windows based computer operations is required.

  • Intermediate typing skills required.

  • Requires problem solving and analytical abilities.

  • Ability to accurately interpret cardiac rhythms, identify changes in rhythms, impact of these changes, and accurate communication of changes to assure patient safety is required.

Additional Requirements:

  • PM/Nights shift
  • At least 2 shifts a pay period if not regularly scheduled.
  • Weekend shift
  • Every other weekend required.
