Primary Purpose of the Position

Winston-Salem State University, School of Health Sciences seeks adjunct instructors for appointments in the Bachelor of Healthcare Management 2024-2025 academic year. All candidates must possess a meaningful blend of terminal degree and work experience in the relevant field, and able to demonstrate successful and well-documented teaching experience.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit

Healthcare management is a growing, diverse field of study that incorporates business managerial functions in healthcare and in healthcare related environments. The profession offers flexibility and the potential for advancement with additional experience and further education. As important, this field of study offers the chance for graduates to have a positive influence on the healthcare of individuals and communities. Graduates have opportunities to work at entry-level positions in the following settings: assisted-living facilities, community and government agencies, health insurance companies, hospital departments, and long term care facilities.

Position required to work during periods of adverse weather or other emergencies No Minimum Experience/Education

Master's degree is required in Health Care or related field, from an accredited institution of higher learning. Professional experience in Health Services Management and Higher Education teaching experience preferred.

Normal Work Schedule

Courses maybe face to face, hybrid, or online. The work schedule varies and is dependent on classes taught.

• The Healthcare Management Department is seeking applicants who are capable of communicating clearly and effectively with students and colleagues.

• Each applicant must be prepared and organized.

• All applicants are required to utilize Canvas. Although training is available, experience is preferred.

• A terminal degree (i.e. PhD, JD, DBA, DHA) from an accredited institution of higher learning is preferred.

• Experience teaching diverse learners in an online environment is also preferred.

• Adequately prepare all course materials and lessons for healthcare management course. Provide each student with clear course expectations, evaluations, timelines, and approved syllabus.

• Provide engaging and relevant assignments for students that demonstrate learning outcomes.

• Suitably challenge, engage, serve and communicate with students to encourage their participation and learning while maintaining mutual value and respect.

• Complete grade books, mid-term and final grade submission, learning assessments and final exam assessments on a timely basis, and respond to student questions on a timely basis.

• Ensure course and program learning outcomes are delivered as defined by the syllabus.
