Description:

GENERAL DUTIES:

The Sterile Processing Supervisor is responsible for the supervision of operations in the sterile processing department and for the coordination of processes and activities that interface with other departments, particularly the operating room. Sterile processing is a unit within the department of Surgical Services, as such the Sterile Processing Supervisor reports to the Director of Surgical Services. All Sterile Processing Technicians report directly to the Sterile Processing Supervisor who is responsible for their schedules, evaluations and work assignments.

The main functions of the Sterile Processing Supervisor is that of leadership, team building and promotion of cooperative staff efforts within the unit and with other using units especially the operating room, maintaining regulatory compliance and providing effective departmental customer service.

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC DUTIES:

Ensures staff utilize appropriate process for decontamination, preparation and packaging of surgical instrumentation and medical devices.

Acts as the point person for issues of customer service.

Demonstrates competency to manage Human Resources effectively.

Coordinates operations, systems and processes within the department

Supervises daily operations of the sterile processing department

Interviews applicants for employment in the department

Evaluates performance of all sterile processing employees

Monitors quality indicators for sterilization machinery (autoclaves, Steris, Sterrad, washers, ultrasonic)

Conducts monthly staff meetings

Works closely with the other surgical services management team members

Monitors timecards for the employees

Prepares reports on sterilization activities for the infection prevention meetings

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

High School Diploma or GED

Certified Operating Room Technician with 5 years experience in OR; working knowledge of sterile processing (including cleaning, disinfecting and sterilization techniques) preferred. Demonstrates clinical competence and leadership skills and ability to present self in a positive and professional manner.

Preferred:

Graduate of accredited professional Nursing Program, with current RN licensure in the State of California and 5 years OR experience; scrubbing experience preferred. Demonstrates clinical competence and leadership skills and ability to present self in a positive and professional manner.

Shift:

13 Week Contract
