The position is responsible for delivering a broad array of health care services throughout the Medical Center, and it's various locations that provide patient care. This is a temporary, not to exceed 120-day appointment, however, appointment may be extended based on the needs of the Medical Center for COVID-19 response. Candidates hired into this NTE 120-day appointment are eligible for health insurance and leave accrual during the appointment. Major duties of the position include but are not limited to: * The primary role is to protect, sustain, and nurture the resident by providing assistance as needed with activities of daily living, and with other needs as required in accordance with established policies and procedures to assure that the highest degree of resident's quality of life and care is maintained. * Performs a range of clinical support duties. * Escorts patients throughout the medical center or clinic for treatment. * Establishes and promotes effective interpersonal relationships and communications with inpatients/residents, families and others. * Establishes and promotes effective working relationships with other employees on the treatment team. * Assists with inventory management and ordering of supplies, placing stock as provided by SPD in appropriate storage areas, rotating stock on shelves, replenishing, and removing/replacing outdated items if needed. * Carries records, reports, laboratory specimens, x-rays, prosthetic equipment and patient prescriptions to designated areas. * Screening patients, visitors and staff entering the medical center and clinics. * Other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: * Work schedules will vary and be discussed with supervisor during the selection process. 24-hour coverage is needed to support the Medical Center operations. There will be shifts available for days, evenings and nights. * Work Schedule for the CBOCs will be Monday - Friday, administrative day hours. General experience includes: customer service in a clinical setting, direct patient care, or indirect patient care. * OR * Education: Applicants may substitute education for the experience required for the GS-2 level: a High school graduation or equivalent. GS-3 grade level: * Experience: 6 months of general experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. General experience includes: assisting or providing support duties to medical personnel or patients in a clinical setting. * OR * Education: Applicants may substitute education for the experience required for the GS-3 level: successful completion of one (1) year of study that included study in medical, health, or related fields. * OR * Combination of Experience/Education: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience are also qualifying, but the education courses must be directly related to the work of the position. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements: Duties require extensive periods of standing and walking. Working with residents requires regular and recurring bending, lifting (not to exceed 35 pounds), reaching, carrying, stooping, stretching and similar activities. Working Conditions: Care duties are performed in an inpatient/resident-centered environment requiring normal safety precautions. Due to the essential functions of the job, the employee may be exposed to infectious waste, disease, odors, and other situations associated with health care, including but not limited to, HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis B, MRSA, and VRE. Universal precautions are followed at all times. While if completing kitchen responsibilities may be exposed to temperatures of refrigerators/freezers and ovens, as well as wet floors.
