This position is located in the Metropolitan Police Department. The Health and Wellness Program Associate assists and coordinates behavioral health, physical health, and overall wellness programs for Metropolitan Police Department (MPD). The position provides program support with wellness strategies and plans and facilitates health and fitness activities.

This Health and Wellness Coordinator is covered under the National Association of Government Employees (NAGE) bargaining unit and you may be required to pay an agency fee through direct payroll deductions.

The incumbent will be responsible for the following:

  • Develops promotional and marketing materials for wellness and fitness programs throughout the agency.

  • Assists in developing meaningful health education materials focused on mental health, physical health, and wellness to be shared with members through regular communication channels from multiple sources.

  • Compiles and maintains a directory of wellness resources and providers available to members.

  • Assists with technical and administrative support in facilitating live and virtual training and educational sessions.

  • Assists in preparing materials for presentations and meetings.

  • Coordinates, schedules, and tracks classes, speakers, seminars, personal training and fitness assessments that promote healthy lifestyles.

  • Compiles statistical summaries of participant data, class attendance, equipment inventories and other evaluation data to ensure proper detailed program evaluation.

  • Responds to general inquiries from members for information about wellness programs.

  • Assists in monitoring grants and submitting required reports.

  • Works with multiple internal and external stakeholders in order to enable initiatives and projects.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Thorough knowledge of the mission and functions of the Metropolitan Police Department.

  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of health and wellness education.

  • Knowledge of and skill in applying analytical and evaluative methods and techniques to conduct research on program/operations; to review and analyze issues and data; and to prepare reports.

  • Ability to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data.

  • Ability to establish rapport and maintain effective relationships with others.

  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

  • Ability to train others.

Licensures, Certifications and other requirements

Certification in relevant skillset areas (i.e., behavioral health, trauma, mind/body connection, wellbeing, and counseling) is preferred.

Certification as a Certified Health Education Specialist is preferred.

Education

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Health Education, Public Health, Health Science, Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or a related field is required.

Work Experience

Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the CS-09 grade level, or its non-District equivalent, gained from public or private sector. Specialized experience for this position includes, but is not limited to: experience in health education or wellness counseling; experience promoting and facilitating health and wellness promotion strategies; ability to identify opportunities to offer additional wellness services based on employee needs; and ability to train others.
