Overview

The Health & Wellness Prevention Coordinator is a 12-month position (July 1, 2024-June 30, 2026) assisting in the coordination and implementation of Be Epic, Escape the Vape programming with USU Extension and HEART Faculty in Grand County. The position is renewable for 3 years (through June 30, 2026) contingent on performance and funding.This position allows for some remote work (e.g., work from home), in addition to in-person events with youth, teachers, and parents. The Health & Wellness Prevention Coordinators will support the administration of a local grant to help prevent youth vaping/e-cigarette use in Moab/Grand County. The prevention coordinators will provide logistical, organizational, and implementation support for the daily activities of the grant administration, including activity planning, training, implementation of events/activities, budgeting, and data reporting. Under direction from the Project Director, the prevention coordinators will develop a parent prevention training/curriculum, advance key relationships with community partners, collaborate to support local events and prevention activities, provide program promotion and implementation of teacher and youth training/activities, data tracking, and reporting. Responsibilities

  • Support and provide implementation of a vape/e-cigarette prevention trainings for youth, parents, and teachers.

  • Plan, organize, present, promote, and supervise special events or outreach activities (e.g., education events, teacher trainings, youth trainings, etc.).

  • Modify and support development of prevention events.

  • Establish working relationship with key partners, schools, and prevention coalitions.

  • Monitor local budget provided for trainings and other grant activities.

  • Promote trainings and events through social media and other marketing tools.

  • Create vape prevention social media content.

  • Work with staff and with community partners, schedule meetings, arrange travel, schedule community and teacher development activities and programs for youth and other project related functions.

  • Assists with technical writing for project activities.

  • Prepare reports, financial statements and records on program status and progress for management and the sponsor agency.

  • Assist with data entry and analysis.

  • Assist with writing and editing project related reports and promotional or educational materials.

  • Engage in evidence-based prevention trainings, professional development, and other opportunities as available.

  • Support the civil right mandate of Utah State University Extension.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two years of experience; or an associate degree; or a current bachelor's degree student in social work, psychology, public health, education, project management, or a related field

  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written skills

  • Experience in recruiting, supervising, and working with youth

  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work independently

  • Basic computer skills- Word, Excel and Internet

  • Demonstrated ability to gather, interpret, and integrate evaluation data

  • Must have access to reliable transportation to and from work site • Ability to lead group planning, discussions, and public presentations

  • Understand public health initiatives, regulations, trends and emerging issues

  • Ability to set, track, and accomplish realistic goals within a strict timeline

  • Punctual; attend all required programs, meetings, and events

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Leadership and program implementation experience in a health-related field

  • Experience navigating grant or governmental program implementation, finances, and reporting

  • Skills in social media promotion and other forms of online marketing and relationship building

  • Background and skill in data use and/or collection

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Public Health, Health Education and Promotion, Psychology, Social Work or a related field

Additional Requirements:

  • Job offer is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check

  • Flexible schedule: some weekend and evening work is required
