Manages the day-to-day healthcare operations of the community to ensure resident's healthcare needs are met. Ensures residents are treated with respect and dignity and ensures quality care as resident's healthcare needs change.

Ensures consistent quality resident care and service delivery throughout all shifts; this may require assuming the role and responsibilities of a Resident Care Associate in order to meet the residents' needs and staffing requirements. Assists in the supervision of community-based licensed nursing staff, medication technicians/CMA's, and Resident Care Associates. Provides training and education to Resident Care Associates on an ongoing basis to include classroom in-services and situation-specific training. Assists in the maintenance of resident charts and review of documentation performed by care giving staff. As allowed by the Nurse Practice Act, assists in assessing the health, functional, and psycho social status of residents. Initiates individualized Personal Service Plans and proactively manages care and services for each resident. Evaluates the effectiveness and maximizes the resident's opportunity to remain in their environment. Ensures and conducts Personal Service Plan reviews and updates, according to Brookdale and state requirements, to ensure residents' service needs are met. Assists in the achievement of occupancy goals by monitoring the health, safety and well-being of residents, proactively identifying those at risk for move out. Implements timely problem solving. Oversees and manages the continuity and consistency of medication training, pharmacy management and medication supervision and/or administration in the community. Conducts periodic Care Associate medication skills inventory checks, and periodic medication audits per Brookdale Guidelines. Implements and maintains Brookdale operating standards, systems and processes. Monitors and participates in Quality Improvement and Risk Management programs at Safety Committee Meetings, Collaborative Care Meetings and Family Care Conferences. Assists in the scheduling and follow through of physician visits including, but not limited to, dental appointments, eye appointments, therapy, and hospice both in house and scheduled visits out of the community. Ensures communication, as appropriate, on the results of these visits. Completes documentation as required by Brookdale or state regulatory agencies. Communicates information in a timely manner to the appropriate person or agency regarding changes in residents' health/well-being, personal needs, risk management issues, customer service issues, family or outside health care provider concerns. Assists in keeping the environment safe for associates to reduce the occurrence of Worker's Compensation claims. Participates in community events, including family and social functions. Shares on-call and Manager on Duty responsibilities/shifts as required.

Education and ExperienceEducation as required to obtain state nursing license (LPN/LVN or RN) and a minimum of 1-2 years relevant experience.

Certifications, Licenses, and Other Special RequirementsLPN/LVN or RN license.

Management/Decision MakingUses limited independent judgment to make decisions based on precedents and established guidelines. Solves problems using standard procedures and precedents. Knows when to refer issues to supervisor and when to handle them personally.

Knowledge and SkillsHas a working knowledge of a skill or discipline that requires basic analytic ability. Has an overall understanding of the work environment and process. Has working knowledge of the organization. Basic typing skills along with a working knowledge of personal computing and word processing software are required, preferably in a Microsoft Windows environment.

General Description The Duke University Talent Identification Program (Duke TIP) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving academically gifted and talented youth in grades four through twelve. We areinvested in our staff by providing professional development tools and coaching Occupational Summary: The Health and Wellness Coordinator is responsible for developing and coordinating health-related procedures and protocols to support the Educational Programs division for the Duke University Talent Identification Program (Duke TIP). Responsibilities include recruiting, hiring and training registered nurses (RNs) and other health-related staff to assist with health screenings, treatment of minor illnesses, medication distribution and management of health conditions for students and staff within the program. Arranging healthcare standing orders, processes for emergency care, allergy and hormone injections, consultations with medical professionals, and coordinating medical care through hospitals, health clinics, urgent cares, and college or university health care offices are all functions of this role. This position will also develop, coordinate and advise on policy, procedures, and quality of health services related to Duke TIP student affairs. This position reports directly to the Director of Student Affairs. Work Performed: Training & Seasonal Staff Hiring * Provide and/or organize routine training of educational programs staff and other Duke TIP stakeholders regarding health and medical related topics and other relevant best practices. * Train medical staff on key functional content including CampDoc and other program platforms, general TIP mission and guidelines, best practices for triaging low- to mid-level injuries for students and staff, and other areas pertinent to fulfilling their role. * Identify healthcare facilities that can serve the needs of Duke TIP's programs, assess quality of experience and communicate with healthcare facilities as needed. * Develop ongoing strategies for sharing of resources around health services, including but not limited to documentation, presentations and training. * Plan, coordinate and administer tasks involved with the hire process of seasonal healthcare staff (RN's Counselors & CMAs) for summer educational programs this includes but not limited to: verifying medical credentials, interviewing and extending offers to seasonal medical staff. * Collect, maintain and share up-to-date resources and best practices for topics related to healthcare for summer programs or camps, adolescents, teens and adults. * While programs are in session during the summer. Travel will be required to all Summer Studies and CRISIS sites to train and advise medical staff as well as to evaluate Med Room setup and all procedures including medicine distribution and low- to mid-level triage of injuries. Supervising & Leadership * Serve in a position with leadership, administrative, and advising of healthcare initiatives for a residential environment serving at least 7500 students attending multiple Duke TIP program sites. * Remotely supervise and monitor the operation of all medical processes at program sites while summer programs are in operation. Serve as 24/7 on-call resource and advisor to on-site administrators when medical questions or situations arise. * React and respond swiftly to emergencies, and manage multiple competing demands and priorities, understanding time sensitivity. Advise and consult with the Director of Student Affairs as needed. Communications & Collaborations * Remain connected to and/or involved with local, state and national organizations associated with health and medical procedures and working with minors in educational settings. This includes, but is not limited to Association of Camp Nurses (ACN), American Camp Association (ACA), Higher Education Protection Network (HEPNET), etc. * Maintain liaison relationship with other programs, offices, departments and stakeholders at Duke to coordinate program business and to accomplish program objectives; interface with external organizations as appropriate to ensure cooperative efforts are enhanced and available resources are utilized. This includes, but is not limited to: Office of Counsel, Health (and Wellness) Centers, Counseling Centers, Student Disabilities and Access Office (SDAO), etc. * Collaborate with and advise the Director of Student Affairs in the development, evaluation, and documentation for health procedures and departmental support. Develop, coordinate and advise on policy recommendations by reviewing and documenting existing practices, and researching best practices in the healthcare and medical field. * Collaborate with other TIP program leads and coordinators and participate in public relations activities including career fairs and serving on various committees, attending professional meetings and representing assigned programs on behalf of the TIP Educational Programs management as directed. * Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein. Must have knowledge of health care insurance systems, along with all pertinent laws, regulations, and guidelines governing medical records; confidentiality, privacy, and provision to others, including HIPAA.
