Duties
The incumbent is assigned to Acute Hospital Services Service Line (Emergency Department) and is responsible for patient related activities in this area which includes medical record management, scheduling of all patients to various clinics, appointments and/or tests, information activities, routing control and other related services for patients.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Obtains information to complete medical records, provides direction and instruction on therapeutic activities and relaying physicians' orders when necessary to the appropriate clinical staff while exercising skill and diplomacy during these contacts due to patients physical and emotional condition.
Interprets and transcribes a variety of physicians' orders, takes appropriate scheduling action and inputs data (including diagnostic and provider codes) in DHCP/VISTA in an accurate and timely manner. The incumbent will manually transfer orders to a variety of requests and consultation forms when services are not available in the computer.
Receives telephone communications for test results, inquiries regarding past and future appointments, clinic cancellation notices and other inquiries fur the clinical staff: Reports information/results and ensures that appropriate staff are notified immediately.
Serves as a key contact for patients, families, visitors, and/or consulting staff. Provides guidance and direction on medical center policies and procedures while using sensitivity and compassion.
Coordinates patient transfer to include, assembling patients' record, ensuring the hospital summary is complete/coded and arrange transportation.
Collaborates with the clinical staff in the administration and coordination of ward activities.
Responsible for the technical tasks associated with the maintenance and custody of medical records on the unit. Is responsible for electronic medical records.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/30/2024 .
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-5 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-4. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: You may be advanced without time restrictions to positions up to GS-5 if the position to be filled is not more than two grades above the lowest grade held within the preceding 52 weeks under a non-temporary competitive appointment.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: Position requires standing, walking, bending, stooping, lifting, and transferring during the administration of care. In addition the work could require long periods of standing, walking, lifting of moderately heavy objects such as typewriters, printers, manuals, or medical records. In addition, the incumbent must be emotionally stable and adjust to different types of personalities, demonstrating cheerfulness, compassion, courtesy, and concern. He/she must be quick and dependable in taking emergency action as directed and use initiative in preventing accidents.
