Duties:

  • Provides customer with consistent information according to established policies and procedures.

  • Knowledge of telemetry equipment to assist in providing safer and proper functioning of equipment.

  • Recognizes and reports changes in patient's telemetry reading outside the established parameters to appropriate personnel.

  • Answers telephone and replies or refers calls appropriately.

  • Recognizes potentially emergent situations to respond as necessary.

  • Communicates and treats customers in courteous, tactful and respectful manner.

  • Performs telemetry monitoring activities including; initiation, recording, documenting, interpreting and discontinuing telemetry.

  • Measures and interprets telemetry readings on hard copy printouts.

  • Recognizes and reports changes in patient's telemetry reading outside the established parameters to appropriate personnel.

Work Schedule: Monday - Sunday, rotating shifts (weekends and Holidays), subject to change based on needs of the facility.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 07/05/2024.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:

Individual Occupational Requirements: You must have experience in supporting duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Technician experience is experience that requires application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled.

In addition to the Individual Occupational Requirement, you must have the following experience and/or education as described below:

Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-05) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:

  • Basic understanding of medical terminology and the process of recording and transmitting the readings of telemetry equipment.

  • Have the ability to set controls and operate telemetry and associated equipment.

  • Experience in assistance of a technical, specialized, or support nature to health and medical personnel in the diagnosis of treatment of cardiac rhythm or medical conditions.

  • Experience in arrhythmia reviews such as taking, recording, and reporting to nursing staff deviations in rhythms.

  • NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. OR,

Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed one half year of graduate education (9 semester hours or equivalent) with a major that included courses directly related to the work of this position. Such graduate education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. NOTE: Transcripts (unofficial or official) must be submitted with your application materials. Education cannot be credited without documentation. OR,

Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an equivalent combination of successfully completed graduate-level education and specialized experience, as described above, which meet the total qualification requirements for this grade level. This education must have been obtained at an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college, or university. NOTE: Your experience must be documented in your resume and transcripts are required.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements: This position requires employees to use visual accuracy and dexterity, and sitting for the tour of duty. The applicant may continuously observe up to eight (8) monitors in an eight (8) hour period. There is significant eve fatigue and stress as the work is repetitious and critical to the care and survival of multiple patients assigned within the Acute Care Service and on the in-patient telemetry unit.

Work Environment: The employee's work setting is located on the inpatient Telemetry unit within the Acute Care Service. There are multiple types of equipment with various alarm systems. The employee adheres to universal precautions.
