Health Teacher

Duties

• Teach Health Education courses in the Related Arts rotation, grades 6-8.

• Provide high quality lesson development and delivery

• Participate in on-going planning, development, and evaluation of curriculum

• Use a variety of instructional strategies to provide equity and excellence to students of all ability levels

• Work cooperatively with other teachers in developing and sharing curriculum materials and learning strategies

• Adapt lessons to the skills and needs of a diverse student population

• Communicate with parents and counselors to resolve behavioral and academic problems

• Observe and evaluate students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health

• Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.

• Ambition to create and deliver a sequential physical education and health curriculum that motivates students;

• Excellent classroom management and organizational skills;

• Strong knowledge of health curriculum content;

• Ability to support the district initiative of improving student reading performance;

• Positive, energetic role model for students and athletes;

• Candidate must be a team player.

Qualifications

• Current Illinois Professional Educator's License to teach at the K-12 level

• Health Education middle school endorsement

• Ability to use technology in teaching health education and to share instructional knowledge in its use with fellow physical education/health education teachers

• Commitment and ability to work with a full range of students

• Skill in using a variety of instructional strategies to engage student learning through innovative, relevant learning experiences

• Commitment to the education profession as evidenced by participation in curriculum development, projects, district or building-level committees, and professional organizations
