Duties
Major duties include, but are not limited to:
Performing as the subject matter expert (SME) to Licensed Independent Providers (LIPs) and Service Chiefs regarding routine and complex matters related to C&P.
Assisting the C&P Manager/Analyst in developing short- and long-term goals necessary to accomplish the mission of the C&P program.
Assisting the C&P Manager/Analyst in drafting local credentialing processes and Medical Staff Bylaws in compliance with all applicable regulations.
Receiving and reviewing VetPro reports detecting problem areas requiring further investigation.
Informing the C&P Manager/Analyst of trends identified, audit results and identified problems that may affect a provider's privilege status.
Providing guidance and instruction to hospital staff in completing the required documentation of establishing privileges for LIPs.
Assuring application packages and other documents meet technical requirements per specialty of provider and assures application folder and database account (VetPro or other internal databases and spreadsheets) meet technical requirements.
Serving as technical advisor to the Executive Committee of the Medical Staff (ECMS) and if applicable the Credentials Committee.
Developing and providing routine and special reports as requested by the C&P Manager/Analyst.
Establishing and maintains a variety of files and records pertaining to the C&P process.
Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

Basic

Experience
In addition to the basic requirement as stated above the following is the experience, education, or combination requirement to qualify for this position at the GS-7 or GS-9 grade levels.
Specialized Experience GS-7: Applicants must have one (1) full year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the Health Systems Specialist (C&P) at the GS-7 level. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-05 level in Federal service. Specialized experience related to this position includes demonstrated knowledge and experience working with software applications such as word processing, data bases and internet database application for data entry, file maintenance, data retrieval and analysis; knowledge of the contacts required for verification of information of health care provider files; knowledge of medical terminology and various medical specialties; knowledge of adapting analytical techniques and evaluation criteria to measure and improve program effectiveness and/or efficiency; ability to conduct analyses of functions and work processes; ability to communicate in writing to prepare emails, letters, reports and committee minutes; and communication and interpersonal relations skills which have demonstrated the ability to communicate technical information to a diverse group of individual with varying levels of understanding.
Substitution of Education for Specialized Experience
GS-7: One (1) full year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position and been obtained at an accredited college or university. Applicants must be in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university or major subdivision, such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses. Grade-point Average
Applicants must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 as recorded on their official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of curriculum; or 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major filed completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum. Combining Specialized Experience and Education
Specialized Experience GS-9: One (1) full year of specialized experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skill, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the Health System Specialist (C&P) and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization (GS-7). Examples of specialized experience include (but are not limited to): Knowledge of pertinent laws, regulations, policies and precedents, accreditation standards and guidelines related to a C&P program; knowledge of credential programs such as VetPro; skill in applying analytical and evaluative methods and techniques to issues or studies concerning the efficiency and effectiveness of a C&P operation; knowledge of the contacts required for verification of information in health care provider files; knowledge of medical terminology, medical specialties and core privileges and procedures to assure competence/appropriateness of credentials and privileging requests; skill in using software applications such as word processing and data bases and internet database applications for data entry, file maintenance and data retrieval and analysis; ability to communicate in writing to prepare emails, letters, reports and committee minutes; and ability to communicate orally technical information to a diverse group of individuals with varying levels of understanding.
