Job Summary

Purdue University Libraries and School of Information Studies invites applications for the position of Health Sciences Information Specialist at the clinical assistant or clinical associate professor level. For this position, "health sciences" may include any of the departments within the College of Health & Human Sciences or the College of Veterinary Medicine. This is a twelve-month, fiscal-year appointment with a strong emphasis on teaching. The successful candidate with work closely with other Libraries health sciences faculty to teach or co-teach established courses (e.g., Information Skills for Health Professionals; Introduction to Systematic Reviews for the Health Sciences; etc.) and to design new in-person or online courses. This professor can also teach courses within the School of Information Studies' recently approved minor in Information Studies. The successful candidate will

  • Teach health sciences-related credit courses or courses for the Information Studies minor;

  • Collaborate on the design of new courses;

  • Design relevant workshops and present them to graduate and undergraduate students;

  • Respond to requests for guest lectures, reference assistance, and research consultations from the health sciences disciplines;

  • Develop instructional materials (e.g., LibGuides; instructional videos; etc.);

  • Provide administrative oversight for the School of Information Studies' evidence synthesis service;

  • Serve as the Libraries' liaison to one or more health sciences departments;

  • Participate on faculty committees, councils, or ad hoc groups with the Libraries and School of Information Studies or Purdue University.

Required qualifications

  • MLS/MLIS from and ALA-accredited program or a terminal degree in a relevant discipline;

  • Completed coursework or work experience in the life or health sciences.

Desirable skills

  • Teaching experience;

  • Instructional design skills;

  • Experience with evidence synthesis methods such as systematic reviews and meta-analyses;

  • Track record of teamwork or project management skills;

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a highly collaborative environment.

Salary and Benefits

The minimum salary is $80,000. Salary is commensurate with experience in the context of Purdue University's salary structure.

Non-tenure track clinical faculty position. Rank of Clinical Assistant Professor.

Start-up funds are provided for computer/software/equipment, and for travel and professional development.
