Lamar Community College has an exciting opportunity for you to be our next Biology Faculty Instructor.  We are looking for a dynamic, passionate, dedicated individual who will lead and implement LCC's strategic plan.

POSITION SUMMARY:    We are seeking an energetic, highly organized, dynamic professional to join our team. This is a full-time, Biology Faculty Position (166 day contract). This position requires providing instructional and department leadership, planning, coordination, and instruction of all components of the biology course offerings at Lamar Community College.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Position will teach introductory and allied health courses, including Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, Microbiology and Pathophysiology

  • Assist in program development and other division tasks

  • Participate in the development and revision of curriculum and program/course evaluation and assessment, including student learning outcomes

  • Perform related duties in the Biology discipline as assigned; participate in professional development activities; 

  • Maintain current knowledge in the subject matter area

  • Use effective teaching/learning strategies

  • Work cooperatively with other department members and the Dean of Academic Services to develop and maintain quality instruction

  • Assignment may include a combination of day, evening, weekend, and off-campus classes

  • The Faculty member is to maintain regular office hours

  • Assist and advise students

  • Participate in division activities including regular faculty meetings of the department and the division

  • Serve on appropriate college committees, including Faculty Senate Committees

  • Assist with new student orientation sessions; participate in professional, campus, and community activities

  • Assist with Regional Science Fair; and perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A minimum of a Masters degree plus 18 graduate credit hours in any Biology or Life Science field.

  • Sufficient preparation to teach college-level courses and at least one year of teaching experience in Biology or related Life Science, preferably at the college level.

  • Demonstrated experience with a variety of diverse teaching methods for engaging students in active learning and assessing student learning outcomes.

  • Demonstrated experience working with individuals from diverse cultural, ethnic, economic, educational, gender, and/or disability backgrounds.

  • Willingness to teach a wide range of subjects, work flexible hours, and travel for service-related obligations.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master or Doctorate degree in Biology, a Life Science field, or Medicine preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience teaching in areas of human biology, survey of biology, and general biology.

  • Background in genetics, micro/molecular lab experience microscopy/histology and complex physiological systems.

  • Knowledge of students served at community colleges including an ability to assist and guide students having a great range of skills, motivations, and academic or vocational goals.

  • Demonstrated ability to work well with others in developing academic programs that focus on student learning and promote student persistence and retention.

  • Demonstrated ability to initiate, execute, and follow up on projects, including the ability to set specific objectives and measure achieved results.

  • Demonstrated ability to establish community relationships and develop academic offerings of public interest.
