Responsibilities

Position Overview


Provides safety / health support to the site leadership team and the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC). In some cases, responsibilities may extend to other Safety, Security, Health, and Environmental (SSHE) issues, status, and metrics. Other duties may be assigned.

Responsibilities:
  • Ensure a safe work environment for all project employees, sub-contractors, and visitors.

  • Provide HSE construction support and direction to all site personnel.

  • Participate and assist in the investigation of incidents to determine the cause.

  • Control all H&S Managements systems, ensuring we adhere to OHSAS 18001.

  • Establish what is required to eliminate any possible reoccurrence an incident in the future.

  • Develop and update safety standards, instructions, codes, and formalize them into company documented practices as required.

  • Review designs for new projects and upgrade of existing facilities for compliance with company and industry safety standards.

  • Respond to emergency situations and incidents either during or after regular working hours, to provide technical assistance and advice.

  • Participate in developing and promoting on- or off-job safety educational programs to address safety issues or concerns.

  • Assigned tasks may include preparation of articles for publication, development of promotional materials, and delivery of presentations.

  • Ensure safety obligations with clients are carried out as per the terms of the clients and communicated to Site Supervision.

  • Routinely monitor the workforce for unsafe behaviors and coach employees on the correct behaviors when observed.

  • Required to be in the field up to 50% of the time or per Grid Integration Manager or clients requirements.

  • Ensure that the following material is available on site, HSE Manual, the applicable OH&S legislation and regulations, site safety inspection forms, observation forms, toolbox sign in sheer and equipment inspections.

  • Ensure that safety meetings are held on a regular basis. These will be daily or depending on the expectations

  • Ensure that inspections are performed per inspection schedule.

  • Communicate any significant issues or concerns

  • Communicate and assist workers to ensure that all safety expectations are met.

  • Manage client expectations and negotiate successful and positive results when issues arise.

  • Facilitate ongoing communications with the client and ensure responsiveness to issues/requests.

  • Provide direction and support to ensure compliance with the company established policies and procedures; as well as those outlined by clients.

  • Indirectly supervise the work and safety practices of various craftsmen in an industrial setting.

  • Determine training needs of craft personnel and assist them in obtaining that training.

  • Follow oral and written directions.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor as needed.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications

  • A minimum 5 years of experience in construction

  • A minimum of an associate degree in Occupational Safety and Health or related field. (Bachelor's Preferred)

  • An understanding of Construction Safety Standards, Excavations, Scaffolding, Steel Erection, Incident Investigation

  • CPR/First Aid, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification and/or OSHA instructor certifications are preferred

  • Proficient in ISNetworld, PICS, DISA

  • OSHA 30 hour certification preferred

  • 5 years of demonstrated experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Visio, and operation of digital cameras.

ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH & SAFETY SPECIALIST The Environmental Health & Safety Specialist position supports the field safety team, clubs and distribution centers, focused primarily on identifying and predicting incident trends through data analytics. This role partners cross functionally to enhance environmental, health & safety programs and implement solutions to create awareness, improve workplace safety, and ensure regulatory compliance. The Environmental, Health & Safety Specialist works with regulatory agencies to respond to inspections and spills, as well as identifies ways to comply with changing and emerging regulations. This role develops and generates reports, supports accident investigations, manages spills and proactively identifies ways to minimize liability to the company. Key Responsibilities: * Remain current in all Environmental, Health & Safety technical skills, including, spill clean-up methodologies, accident investigation and root cause analysis. * Analyze safety rates and data analytics to predict incident trends and identify areas for improvement. * Publish monthly reports and dashboards to communicate results and drive improvement. * Collaborate with the field safety team on developing strategies to improve safety, assess high risk areas, address incidents and maintain a safe environment for team members and members. * Develop and execute Environmental, Health & Safety programs and update as necessary to ensure they meet or exceed industry standards. Examples include life safety and emergency preparedness, recordkeeping, fire safety, powered industrial trucks, machine guarding, tire bay safety, hazardous waste management and personal protective equipment. * Assist in meeting all government agency requirements (e.g., OSHA, EPA, DOT, FDA & USDA); respond to regulatory inspections, investigations and recalls; and work with vendors and internal business partners to supply the clubs with cost effective environmental equipment, signage and programs to promote execution of safety practices and regulatory compliance. * Respond and provide 24-hour support and direction for all environmental spills, manage the emergency response program, and oversee corporate Tier II reporting, OSHA recordkeeping and regulatory reporting necessary to support the organization. * Develop partnerships with all home office teams, including Operations, Human Resources, Asset Protection, Merchandizing, Logistics and Facilities to support the clubs. * Support various company initiatives and strategic priorities by providing guidance based on industry best practices as they apply to Environmental, Health & Safety. Requirements: * Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science or in any Natural Science. * 2+ years of experience in an environmental compliance or safety capacity, preferably in the manufacturing or retail industry. * Knowledge of applicable federal, state and local regulations and industry best practices related to Environmental, Health & Safety. * In-depth ability to analyze data, identify trends and provide recommendations to reduce incident rates. * Strong verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail and excellent interpersonal skills. * Detailed oriented and able to coordinate multiple priorities in a fast paced environment. * Ability to work independently and in a team setting. * Occasional overnight travel required.
