In this role, you will:
Support compliance to regulatory, client and company requirements for product safety through:
Supporting adherence to the adequacy and regulatory compliance of the procedures documented in company manuals.
Supporting the development and deployment of HSE Policy, Safety Management System Manual, HSE Continuous Improvement, Process measurement and Improvement protocols and processes.
Following up on audit findings and where possible, assisting to address the issues to close the audit findings.
Reviewing and conducting the initial triage of safety reports in database systems such as Synergi Life / CGR / Air Maestro, including escalation of safety concerns. This is to include monitoring all pertinent proactive and reactive safety reports and where necessary, in conjunction with relevant department managers, ensure that appropriate support is given to deliver follow-up action.
Ensuring timely and appropriate actions are taken to address any safety deficiencies or opportunities for improvement.
Conducting and / or supporting safety investigations as assigned. Investigations may be reactive to incidents and accidents, or proactive to identify/assess areas which could be improved. This is to include analysis and development of recommendations to prevent re-occurrence.
Actively contribute to the continual improvement of the safety and quality systems, including drafting revisions to documents within the safety management system.
Participate and/or facilitate risk assessment sessions across the organisation.
Assist in preparing and conducting relevant safety training for SMS and Occupational Health requirements.
Support applicable Joint Health & Safety Committee activities.
Support Periodic Safety Review Boards within the Aviation business.
Compile relevant safety performance reports in line with SMS requirements and applicable reporting timeframes.
Coordinate, update and administer safety system infrastructure as directed, to meet operational requirements. This is to include collection, collation, editing and disseminating of safety information for the promotion of safety awareness.
Acting as a safety champion within the organisation, including:
Providing safety related advice to internal stakeholders,
Actively promoting hazard awareness and hazard control strategies,
Highlighting or challenging unsafe acts or behaviours.
Complete occasional travel to Babcock aviation sites in British Columbia and Manitoba. Part of BCI Corporate Services Safety organization but co-located within Aviation business units and supports Aviation Quality Manager(s).
Focus on HSE associated with Ground Operations and Maintenance (not Flight Ops) which touches on Safe to Operate and Operate Safely but desirable if advice can be provided on strengthening Management of Safety.
Supports administration of SQRBs (and the wider system they are a part of to support their effectiveness)
Look to develop awareness of metal fatigue, weather and air control issues, interface documents (prime/subcontractor relationships) for professional progression
Perform other duties assigned by management.
Periodic travel is required to various locations in British Columbia and Manitoba.
The ideal candidate brings:
Minimum 5 years experience in a similar HSE role
Accredited training in Aviation Safety Management disciplines is preferred.
Experience as part of or leading an Incident Investigation is preferred.
Relevant experience in Rotary Wing / SAR Air Operators environment is preferred.
Experience with Safety Management Systems is preferred.
Be self-motivated and results oriented with a focus on delivery of safety.
Excellent listening, verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
Ability to work in a rapidly evolving and dynamic environment.
Be a team player with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to participate and deliver outcomes within a team of aviation professionals.
Incident Investigator qualification is preferred but not mandatory.
Auditor Accreditation to ISO9001 or equivalent aviation specific (AS) accreditation is desirable
Has equivalent of NTSB FW/RW investigation course.
Has TOPSET training.
Understands Human Factors and normalization behaviours.
Is familiar with the FAIR 3 framework.
Awareness of risk management practices relating to aviation (operational bowties, safety cases and the concept of barriers)
Relevant academic background preferably at a post-secondary degree level in engineering or relevant field
