Harco Fittings LLC, founded in 1966 in Lynchburg, Virginia is a producer of gasketed joint injection-molded PVC and push-on gasketed joint ductile fittings. We currently have an exciting opportunity as a Health, Safety & Environment Business Partner. This role is based out of our facility in Lynchburg, Virginia and reports to the Managing Director.

Job Summary

The HSE Business Partner will support our Management Leaders in Manufacturing and Distribution locations, inspire and empower excellence in health, safety & environment across all sites under his/her responsibilities.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Director of Manufacturing, or Director of Distribution and Logistics on vision for the business unit. Identify and communicate learnings and good practices from inside and outside the business.

  • Create pride in achievements to help motivate further improvement.

  • Monitor metrics and audits, and analyse data to identify risks, performance & opportunities (in relation to legal compliance, risk management, capability building, and behavioural change).

  • Ensure HSE risks and impacts are identified and assessed at site levels.

  • Co-create with the Directors of Manufacturing/Regional Distribution Managers (with support of Director Health, Safety & Environment) a divisional strategy and action plan to drive continuous improvement that reflects the risks and strategic objectives of our organization.

  • Collaborate in the development of standards and implementation tools for the Health, Safety and Environmental Management System.

  • Support HSE training programs including development, scheduling and evaluation.

  • Support environmental data collection and reporting, permitting and regulatory compliance.

  • Provide guidance on HSE challenges and continuous improvement opportunities.

  • HSE systems evaluation and compliance auditing

  • Delivery of Regional HSE training programs

  • Monitor interaction with regulatory and 3rd party agencies on concerns that impact their operations.

  • As required, work with other sectors (Sales, Marketing, Maintenance Excellence, Manufacturing Excellence and others) of the organization to ensure safe workplaces

  • Developing talent in direct reports, so they can work effectively in achieving the vision of the organization at their sites.

  • Collaborate with and coaching Directors of Manufacturing/Regional Distribution Managers to enable them to effectively lead and manage HSE within their areas of responsibility.

  • Facilitate effective incident investigations to ensure thorough root cause analysis, sharing learnings, best practices and continuous improvement opportunities, supporting closely to provide guidance on serious incident response.

  • Develop and lead a network organization of site-based HSE Specialists, to ensure effective implementation of Corporate strategies.

  • Develop functional capabilities across the HSE network through training and coaching.

  • Support and deliver effective Safety Leadership trainings across the organization, from front-line leaders to directors.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Post-Secondary education, in HSE or business related, and 10 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • Hold or is eligible for a professional designation (CRSP/CSP).

  • Strong experience in assessing and controlling HSE risks and impacts, including:

  • Physical and mental health risks (ex. musculo-skeletal risks, psychosocial risks);

  • Safety risks (ex. fire, machine guarding, transport, work at heights, energy control);

  • Environmental impacts (ex. resource consumption such as raw materials, energy, etc.), emissions (to air, soil, water), and waste (hazardous and non-hazardous) from normal and abnormal situations.

  • Occupational/Industrial Hygiene (ex. Noise, air quality, hazardous materials, biological, ergonomic hazards)

  • Practical knowledge of implementing HSE management systems, including ISO 14001 and/or 45001

  • Ability to drive behavioural change in a multi-site operational environment.

  • Strong leadership and influential skills. Ability to work both individually and collaboratively.

  • Bilingual Spanish/English an asset.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Willingness and ability to travel within Canada and the USA regularly (between 25-40% of the time).
