Description

The Department for Public Health (DPH), Division of Maternal and Child Health (DMCH) has many programs to improve the health and well-being of infants, children, prenatal and postpartum women, and families including the Women, Infant, and Children (WIC) nutrition services program. This position, located in the Nutrition Services Branch (NSB), Clinical Nutrition Section (CNS), coordinates and administers the WIC Breastfeeding Program and WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program in the Central Kentucky Region.

This position will cover the following counties: Jefferson, Oldham, Trimble, Henry, Shelby, Spencer, Nelson, Washington, Marion, Larue, Grayson, Hardin, Meade, Bullitt, Fayette, Woodford, Anderson, Franklin, Scott, Harrison, Nicholas, Bourbon and Clark.

This is a federally funded time limited (FFTL) position. This means it is a position that is paid entirely as the result of a federal grant. The duration of employment shall not exceed the life of the federal grant that funds the position. An employee appointed to an FFTL position is required to meet the minimum requirements for the classification. Further, an employee appointed to an FFTL position is designated as an unclassified (non- merit) employee. An FFTL employee is eligible to receive benefits at the same level as a classified (merit) employee in a permanent position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plans, provides and evaluates training needs of nutritionists, nurses, and Breastfeeding Peer Program Staff in contracted WIC agencies in Central Kentucky.

  • Coordinates activities of each designated WIC breastfeeding coordinators at contracted WIC agencies in Central Kentucky.

  • Plans and coordinates regular regional in-person and virtual meetings and trainings.

  • Reviews federal and state regulations and legislation related to breastfeeding promotion and support, recommends policies and procedures for contracted WIC agencies in Central Kentucky in coordination with the state Breastfeeding Coordinator to increase incidence and duration of breastfeeding, including the WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program.

  • Analyzes, complies and monitors statistical information to evaluate program effectiveness.

  • Prepares regional reports.

  • Evaluates budgets and program plans.

  • Conducts onsite reviews and evaluations for quality assurance and provides necessary technical assistance for WIC and WIC Peer Counselor Programs in Central Kentucky.

  • Evaluates regional progress toward national objectives on incidence and duration of breastfeeding.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Four years of professional experience in a health care facility, a community-based health care program, an institutional health care program, any health program administration, pharmacy technician, social work, public health, population health, emergency management services, emergency medical technician, paramedic, or related field.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: A master's degree in public health, or a health-related field (such as human services, psychology, nursing, health administration, substance abuse, special education, rehabilitation, social work, sociology, or related field) will substitute for two years of the required experience.

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Additional professional experience in a health care facility, a community-based health care program, an institutional health care program, any health program administration, pharmacy technician, social work, public health, population health, emergency management services, emergency medical technician, paramedic, or related field will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
