Alaka`ina Foundation Family of Companies (FOCs) has a need for a Health Physicist support our government customer located in Kirtland AFB, New Mexico.

DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Set priorities, gives technical and administrative advice and assistance as required to resolve problems and to assure continuity of work

  • Organizing and managing all features of the worldwide Radiation Safety Program bearing on health physics and radiation safety.

  • Maintain currency on proposed technical and managerial developments in the health physics and radiation safety fields and formulate, and institute appropriate changes in the organization program to assure it embodies the latest practices; and ensure state-of-the-art health physics, nuclear and radiation safety concepts, principles, and techniques are incorporated into the organization Radiation Safety Program.

  • Develop, implement, and administer health physics and radiation safety training for Site Radiation Safety Officers, Authorized Users, and Individuals Working in or Frequenting Restricted Areas (Occupationally Exposed Individuals and Ancillary Personnel) compliant with Federal, State, DoD, and local regulations and requirements. The training will be made available to a worldwide audience and will include classroom lectures and practical (hands-on) training emphasizing organization policies, procedures and mission.

  • Develop, implement, and administer HAZMAT shipping safety training for Site Radiation Safety Officers, and Authorized Users shipping and transporting SNM in accordance with the requirements of the organization Quality Assurance Program compliant with Federal, State, DoD, and local regulations and requirements. The training will be made available to a worldwide audience and will include classroom lectures and practical (hands-on) training emphasizing organization policies, procedures and mission.

  • Develop radiological guidelines for organization operations and facilities where existing guidelines are inadequate or where guidance does not exist.

  • Review and evaluate requests to deviate from established radiological practices or regulations that are submitted by organization subordinate organizations.

  • Evaluate and recommend the approval or disapproval of drawings, plans, and specifications for facilities, equipment, and operations involving hazardous sources of ionizing radiation.

  • Develop and implement methods and procedures for handling, storing, disposing of, and decontaminating radioactive material.

  • Develop and implement health physics and radiation safety policies, directives, and procedural guidelines. Propose organization-wide health physics policy as it relates to radiation metrology.

  • Establish effective liaison with organizations and agencies such as DOT, OSHA, NRC, EPA, DOE and DoD who have interests in health physics and radiation safety matters. Provide input to Federal agencies and state governments concerning health physics matters.

  • Provide continuing oversight and evaluation of the health physics and radiation safety efforts at organization subordinate elements.

  • Represent organization at conferences, workshops, and other such events such as treaty negotiations on Technical Equipment Inspections (TEI) and equipment approval. Certify safety of foreign radioactive sources used in the U.S. by inspection teams supporting international arms control treaties.

  • Assess program compliance with applicable legislation and regulations, including those generated by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), Department of Transportation (DOT), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Department of Energy (DOE) and the Department of Defense (DoD). Originate and conduct special studies, reviews and analyses

  • Manage all organization non-tactical radioactive materials licensing, authorization, and control efforts for ionizing radiation sources and materials used in metrology-related systems and commodities worldwide.

  • Administer and assure compliance with the provisions of all NRC licenses and radioactive material authorizations held by organization.

  • Perform or direct the investigation of accidents involving ionizing radiation, and of occurrences involving potential radiation overexposure of organization personnel. Assure that organization has necessary resources and procedures to cope with radiological emergencies.

  • Oversee organization radioactive material disposal efforts with specific emphasis on the disposal of radioactive waste (to include OCONUS Radioactive Waste Program). Provide guidelines for minimizing the generation of waste.

  • Interpret radiological exposures for organization personnel. Research, analyze and reconstruct occupational radiation exposure dosage history for former employees of organization and its legacy agencies. Maintain and automate the retrieval of occupational radiation exposure records for organization employees. Interpret and monitor bioassays for worldwide organization operations. Oversee transportation of radioactive materials.

  • Monitor the use of fast-scan personnel radiation detection system at European Operations Division and headquarters.

  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor

REQUIRED DEGREE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

Bachelors degree in physics, health physics, nuclear engineering or related discipline is required

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of three (3) years or more in demonstrated experience as a Health Physicist

REQUIRED CITIZENSHIP AND CLEARANCE:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

  • Must have Top Secret Clearance.
