This is an adjunct faculty pool for teaching part-time in the Health, Physical Education, and Recreation (HPER) department. If you qualify, please apply and briefly describe your special area of instruction in your cover letter.

This pool will remain open until June, 2025 unless positions are no longer needed. Applications will be reviewed and candidates will be contacted and interviewed as positions become available.

Instructor is responsible for the planning and implementation of the assigned HPER course. Instructor is required to create a course syllabus, instruct students in the fundamentals of subject matter in accordance with that syllabus, maintain attendance records, assess student progress and evaluate course work for a letter grade. Instructor will maintain college standards in all aspects of professionalism, record keeping and instruction within the team atmosphere of the Health, Physical Education and Recreation (HPER) department of Rogue Community College.

Supervision Received

The dean, in consultation with the department chair is responsible for carrying out the evaluation of instructors under procedures developed by the vice president. The dean confers with the department chair in decisions regarding instructor workload, professional growth, retention, and department staffing levels.

1.Instructs students in a classroom, lab, gymnasium, or other setting as appropriate. 

2.Prepares, distributes, and utilizes instructional support materials, including course syllabi, supplementary materials, instructional media, and other devices as appropriate. 

3.Develops, communicates, and utilizes a student assessment process and instruments which are related to the stated objectives of the course. 

4.Participates as a team member in departmental meetings and planning activities. 

5.Participates in curriculum planning and development as needed. 

6.Adapt learning procedures to the online/distance learning environment, including telecourse and web-based delivery, ensuring comparable quality of instruction, student-teacher interaction, and assessment with classroom-based courses. 

7.Performs other duties as assigned. 

Education: A bachelor's degree plus two years of successful experience preferred. A bachelor's degree may be waived with four years of successful experience in the subject matter being taught.

Only degrees received from an accredited institution will be accepted: accreditation must be recognized by the office of degree authorization, US Department of Education, as required by ORS 348.609. Final candidate will be required to provide official transcripts for required degree.

Experience: Post-secondary teaching experience preferred in the subject being taught. Instructors who teach adventure based classes are required to provide proof of successful training, field experience and, if available, certification within the specific sport. 

Knowledge of: Knowledge of assigned subject matter for assigned courses; computer applications for communication and learning, including, but not limited to, word processing, the Internet, multi-media presentations, spreadsheets and database management; curriculum development; the community colleges' mission, role in higher education, and student population; and sensitivity to a diverse student body and its needs. 

Ability to: Communicate effectively and respectfully with diverse students, staff, and community members; demonstrate experience or potential for innovation and creativity in both the classroom and related educational duties, including the use of new technologies such as online instruction; demonstrate a commitment to professional standards and growth. Pass a criminal background check.

Licenses: Instructors must hold a current CPR card. If required to drive on behalf of the college, must possess a valid Oregon Driver License and provide proof of an acceptable driving record.

Physical Demands: The physical demands listed below represent those that must be met by an incumbent to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with qualified disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Manual dexterity and coordination are required for the greater part of the daily work period (between 20 to 80%) which is spent instructing in a classroom or lab setting, sitting while operating office equipment such as computers, keyboards, 10-key, telephones, and other standard office equipment. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, reach, bend, kneel, stoop, twist, crouch, climb, balance, see, talk, hear, and manipulate objects.

This position requires both verbal and written communication abilities. The position requires mobility including the ability to move materials less than 5 pounds daily, 5-25 pounds occasionally, and 25-60 pounds rarely. Lab instructors must be able to demonstrate proper use of sport and gym equipment, and be able to demonstrate proper techniques for various sport activities.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is primarily working indoors in an office and gymnasium environment. The employee is not exposed to hazardous conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be loud with music, and lighting is adequate.
