Credentials:

Must hold a valid state license to practice as a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse.

Role:

The medical professional shall hold at least a registered professional nurse license, or a license indicating a higher level of training, that is valid by the State of Ohio. The medical professional will work to strengthen and facilitate the educational process by improving and protecting the health status of children at each health office site.

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Provides school health services, including routine and requested assessment of hearing, vision, posture, blood pressure, growth and development, and current state of health;

  • Refers students in need of medical care, dental care or counseling and provides information, support, and counseling to parents and students;

  • Plans and supervises emergency care for injured and ill students and staff members;

  • Is responsible for the prevention and control of communicable diseases and referral for immunization as required by law;

  • Assists in the establishment of appropriate policies for implementation of services;

  • Provides and administers clinic services in each building;

  • Oversees cumulative health and immunization records for all students;

  • Prepares and submits reports for state and local agencies and authorities;

  • Advises and counsels students and school personnel about health matters;

  • Confers with teachers to evaluate the health status of the students;

  • Advises and cooperates with school personnel on the modification of the educational program to meet the needs of individual students;

  • Assists as a member of the consultation team and the evaluation team of assigned schools;

  • Provides a report of student health history and health assessment as part of all psychological evaluations for special services placement;

  • Attends staff, professional, and inter-agency meetings and educational workshops to maintain and improve professional skills;

  • Assists school personnel in establishing comfortable, safe and sanitary conditions in the schools.

Position Hours and workdays: Full-time; first shift; (8:00am to 4:00pm); 30 minute lunch (unpaid) Monday - Friday

Experience: Prefer a minimum of two years of experience in community health or school health clinic.

Position starting Salary Range (pay is commensurate with OAPSE classified contract): $25.31 p/hour (no experience) up to $27.68 (with verifiable and related experience).
