Description:
This is a consultant position up to 90 days annually working for the North Cook Regional Office of Education/Intermediate Service Center in collaboration with 39 districts, two special education cooperatives, and nonpublic schools in the North Cook Region. The Health Life Safety Consultant (HLS) works directly with the North Cook Leadership Team and reports to the Executive Director in an office environment and out in the field. This role requires exceptional communication, collaborative, and organizational skills, and knowledge of health life safety related to school and government requirements.
This work will result in an up to 90-day agreement each year at a daily rate of $517. A specific work schedule will be developed in collaboration with the districts served and the Executive Director. This assignment may require work outside of typical weekday office hours.
Job Summary - Essential Duties:
Provide continuous guidance for schools/districts we serve related to health life safety
Work collaboratively with the NCISC HLS Compliance Team Inspectors and set clear expectations for all parties involved
Communicate with and work effectively with architects, engineers, ISBE, village managers, IDPH, MWRD, OFSM, EPA, General Contractors along with maintaining partnerships with other governmental agencies
Facilitate and organize non-public school Compliance Reviews each year
Organize and schedule all building permit meetings
Complete and process all building permits in compliance with statutory requirements
Ensure all permit and other requirements, including any joint permit requirements, are complete prior to the start of construction projects
Ensure all experts (i.e. architects, engineers, etc) are consulted and/or present for permit related discussions and meetings as needed
Maintain copies of all approved permits
Process, inspect and prepare all Occupancy Permits in advance of meeting
Inspect annually any Temporary Modular Classroom prior to the beginning of the school year
Complete annual reporting requirement including ROE Reports on IWAS
Review reports annually (July 1-June 30)
Lead, help, listen and guide others and provide expertise around HLS activities
Complete other responsibilities as assigned

Technology Skills: Google Suite (Docs/word processing, Sheets/spreadsheets, Slides/presentations, Forms, Calendar)
File and scan paperwork for North Cook records
Physical Demands. The consultant is required to:
Travel independently to various North Cook County districts, schools, and our office as required
Stand, walk and navigate stairs for extended periods of times both inside and outside the school building
Operate office equipment, sit, and occasionally reach with hands and arms
Occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds; such as files, boxes, and paper supplies
Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds; such as files, boxes, and paper supplies
Use computer monitors, laptop, and type on the keyboard as needed
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree is preferred. Experience as a district-level leader or as a retired Business Manager, Superintendent, or Buildings & Operations Director is preferred. Experience in working closely with administrators and various contractors. Adept at using Google Suite and PDF. Technical knowledge of building maintenance, permits, and inspections is highly preferred.
Salary/Benefits
Daily Rate and Working Conditions:
The Consultant will work up to 90-days on an annual basis to complete the job requirements at a rate of $517/day. The position is not eligible for benefits. Mileage will be reimbursed upon submitting a NCISC Reimbursement Form. This work may require attention outside of typical office hours.
