The Yale New Haven Health System Health Equity Epidemiologist reports to the Executive Director of the Office of Health Equity and Community Impact. He/she uses critical thinking skills and provides epidemiological data leadership within the Office with a focus on community and quality. Key responsibilities include analysis of community and population health data, designing and implementing evaluation strategies, providing technical guidance, and data visualization leadership and support.

Responsibilities
- Provide data and analytic leadership to inform the planning and implementation of System Office of Health Equity strategic priorities
- Support the activities of the triannual Community Health Needs Assessments (CHNA) and Community Health Improvement Plans (CHIPs)
- 2.1 Participate in the planning and implementation of the community health needs assessments data collection and analysis process
- Maximize gathering and reporting of community benefit data
- 3.1 With the YNHHS Community Benefit Manager, support the data collection process and develop community benefit data visualization tools.
- Measure and report social impact
- 4.1 Conduct best practice research for community social impact measurement
- Develops and maintains community profile documents for Delivery Network communities.
- 5.1 Leverage existing and new data sources with demographic and social determinants of health indicators to update profiles.
- Conduct data-informed health disparities analysis, quality assurance and performance improvement work.
- 6.1 With Medical Director Identify and analyze disparities that are discovered through an equity lens analysis (e.g. REaL, SOGI, SDOH, language, etc.)
- Serves as a key member of the Care Signature/Quality & Safety/ Health Equity Data Governance team
- Participate in problem-solving discussions with internal stakeholders (e.g. researchers and clinicians) to determine clinically and scientifically sound approaches
- Serves as a data visualization lead for the Office
- Translates best practice community-based research through various equity lenses in order to identify and track disparities
- Collaborate with other departments to identify and address health disparities among the patient populations of YNHHS
- Share data for development of proposals for grant funding
- Contribute to the writing and submission of journal articles/manuscripts for publication as appropriate.
- Represent YNHH Office of Health Equity and Community Impact as needed regionally, and statewide
- Perform other duties as assigned or directed by direct supervisor to ensure smooth operations
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Master's degree in public health, epidemiology, or statistics. Familiarity with healthcare data and operations preferred.
EXPERIENCE
Preferred: knowledge of and experience with relational databases, Epic, spreadsheet software, GIS, and data analysis using statistical packages such as SPSS & SAS as well as experience in questionnaire design. Competency in data visualization methods, such as development of charts and graphs, as well as creation of data summaries and reports.
