Health Educator I, (A246043-2), 202, Community Mental Health

This position is grant funded. Therefore, it is solely dependent on availability of grant funds.

Works with program director on health education, prevention, nutrition, self-sustainability, wellness, community engagement, and mental health with the Community Mental Program from the City of Laredo Public Health Department. Provides management support for operations for the Integrated Behavioral Health.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Provides health education on prevention, wellness, mental health, and primary care.

• Prepares health education and prevention materials to be presented for City of Laredo Public Health Department  health services.

• Conducts presentations on health education topics.

• Assists in coordinating and implementing health education programs in particular on primary care and mental/behavioral health.

• Reviews, prepares, and develops reports as needed.

• Communicates with program clients and community participants to provide information, support, and assistance.

• Helps individuals in filling out applications for health services and teaches them how to access the health care system.

• Maintains close contact with volunteers in case they need forms or other equipment.

• Projects a positive and professional image for the Public Health Department.

• Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word, with the ability to create and manipulate spreadsheets and documents effectively.

• Assists with office operations including managing schedules, handling correspondence, maintaining office supplies, tracking inventory, organizing files and records.

• Works closely with team on program operations through respectful and clear communication.

• Capable of using appointment scheduling software or tools to manage client appointments and monitor attendance records accurately.

• Will be required to drive a City vehicle for City use.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

• High school diploma or G.E.D.

• At least one (1) year of experience in health education, outreach, or community social support.

Proof of TB Test/Screening will be required to be presented prior to employment.

Valid Texas Driver License. If applicant holds an out-of-state license, a State of Texas Driver License must be obtained within 6 months of employment.

As part of the minimum requirements for all positions with the City of Laredo, a thorough background check and certified school transcripts will be required from all applicants who are offered employment.
