The primary purpose of the Health Education Specialist is to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate decision support tools for patients, caregivers, and clinicians. The Health Education Specialist will develop cancer-related materials and resources necessary for program implementation and work with team members to execute related research studies. The Health Education Specialist will serve as an enthusiastic, professional, and self-motivated team member and leader in a fast-paced environment.

Decision Aid Production (40%)

  • Coordinates the design and production of decision aids.

  • Designs educational modules and programs including scripts, flow diagrams, and storyboards.

  • Maintains production and source documents.

  • Acts as liaison with the decision aid production team (playwrights, graphic illustrators, videographers, narrators, programmers, and others).

  • Modifies decision aid components based on user testing.

Study Management, Data Collection, and Regulatory Compliance (30%)

  • Exhibits excellent organizational and project management skills, creating and following study procedures in adherence to regulatory standards, identifying project deliverables, and implementing study initiatives to achieve measurable change.

  • Creates and manages multiple complex timelines with varying contingencies and feedback loops.

  • Schedules and facilitates team meetings.

  • Enrolls eligible participants in research studies, determines patient eligibility, and obtains informed consent.

  • Engages in all parts of research study activities, including cognitive and/or qualitative interviews with study participants.

  • Analyzes qualitative data to inform research study activities.

  • Facilitates data entry and data management in study databases with precision and in a timely manner.

Creating Written Communication and Content (30%)

  • Prepares reports for project funders and presentations or publications for dissemination of information related to the project.

  • Writes didactic content based on evidence and adapts content for a lower-literate audience using health literacy principles.

  • Understands scientific and technical writing, accurately summarizing technical messages for various audiences.

  • Actively participates in manuscript and grant writing efforts.

  • Communicates professionally and in a timely manner with study team members and internal/external collaborators.

Other duties as assigned.


Required: Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Health Education, Community Health Education or related field.


Required: Two years experience coordinating patient education programs.


Required: Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.

Qualifications: Education/Certification * Valid Texas teacher certification * Master's degree in educational assessment and/or related field * Diagnostician certification or Licensed Specialist in School Psychology * Supervisory and/or administrative certification preferred Special Knowledge/Skills * Knowledgeable of federal, state, local laws and regulations * Knowledgeable of assessment and programming of students with disabilities. * Knowledgeable of learning, interventions and behavior requirements of students with disabilities. * Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills * Maintain emotional control under stress Experience * Administrative experience at a campus and/or district level * Experience in providing professional development * Minimum of five years as a Diagnostician or LSSP Major Responsibilities and Duties: * Provide supervision and coordination of evaluation staff in the provision of the assessment process as well as the ARD process. * Develop and facilitate staff development activities regarding legal updates, assessment information, and any other pertinent assessment/evaluation information to assessment and related services staff, campus staff, and other district staff as appropriate. * Assists with coordination of child find practices by collaborating with Bay Area ECI and conducting regularly scheduled child find screenings. * Provide auditing and coordination to ensure consistency and compliance of the FIE in state eligibility records. * Provide technical support to assessment and related services staff with evaluation issues. * Ensure compliance with federal, state and local requirements in all areas of the assessment and ARD process. * Assist in the selection of assessment materials, instruments, and equipment. * Assist in recruiting, screening, and hiring evaluation staff. * Coordinate mentoring and training for Diagnosticians, Speech Therapists, LSSPs and other related services staff new to the district. * Coordinate and monitor timelines for referrals and reevaluations. * Coordinate and facilitate regularly scheduled meetings with assessment and related services staff. * Maintain inventory of assessment materials and equipment. * Maintain documentation to report progress on state performance plans and performance based monitoring activities. * Assist in the determination, continuous evaluation, and revision of the assessment process. * Employ effective organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. * Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible. * Other duties as assigned.
