Were looking for a Health Communication Research Manager with a strong, proven interest in health communication and public health. As a researcher, youve worked with diverse audiences using a number of research methods particularly quantitative. Youre a talented methodologist and analyst, passionate about tackling complex statistical problems and thinking through sampling and weighting schemes. As a manager, you excel at connecting the dots between research findings and client strategy. Youre comfortable managing budgets and schedules and delight in getting a team organized. You enjoy working independently and collaboratively, have experience giving and receiving feedback, and have outstanding client management skills and attention to detail. You are passionate about making health information easier to understand and use.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and conduct mixed-method communication research, including cognitive interviewing, experimental and survey research
  • Develop plans for analyzing quantitative data, including weighting and conducting bivariate analyses
  • Analyze and interpret results from quantitative data, including descriptive and inferential statistics
  • Draft research deliverables (i.e., screeners, questionnaires, protocols)
  • Translate findings into actionable recommendations for clients
  • Write clear, concise reports (from top-level summaries to detailed technical reports) for delivery to clients
  • Coach junior staff in secondary data analysis and quality control procedures
  • Oversee study logistics and coordination, which may include identifying creative recruitment strategies
  • Review client meeting notes and monthly reports to ensure accuracy and clarity
  • Develop and monitor project timeline, budget and staffing needs, coordinating across departments as needed
  • Identify and manage vendors or sub-contractors
  • Manage client communications and relationships
  • Develop product requirements and specifications, and adjust as necessary based on client feedback and user research

Requirements

  • Masters degree in communication, psychology, public health, or a related social science
  • Minimum 5 years professional experiencea minimum of 2 years in a research role
  • Experience conducting experimental and survey research, from study design through reporting
  • Ability to write syntax and analyze data in SPSS (or similar software package)
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in a project management role, with an ability to establish and document processes
  • Experience managing complex projects and effectively communicating with clients
  • Ability to think on your feet and come up with creative and appropriate solutions
  • Ability to work well in teams with other highly-qualified professionals in a relaxed,
    culturally-diverse environment

Preferred

  • Experience conducting qualitative research and thematic analysis
  • Understanding of communication and health behavior models, theories, and principles
  • Experience conducting research on behalf of the federal government
  • Familiar with IRB, Office of Management and Budget Paperwork Reduction Act, and nuances of research clearance processes
  • Experience working with graphic designers and web developers
  • Supervisory experience
  • Solid working knowledge of common operating systems and software including iOS for Mac. Comfortable with digital-based work, especially digital project management and collaboration tools and video conferencing.

You are passionate about making health information easier to understand and use. </p><p><strong>Requirements</strong></p><p>The core functions of this role include:</p> <ul> <li> <em>Setting and enacting strategy</em> — You will work with clients and internal subject matter experts to set health communication strategy and articulate the vision across multiple contracts. You will contribute to, understand, and help the team enact this strategic vision and ensure that they have thought through processes with the right input at the right time. </li> <li> <em>Client management</em> — As a program manager, you are responsible for your client relationship across projects. You make sure the team’s talking points and rationale are clear to the client and to various stakeholders. You are savvy at negotiating strategy and deliverables with the client, and you’re comfortable challenging the status quo in those efforts. You communicate program risks clearly and proactively to the client.</li> <li> <em>Delivering successful program outcomes</em> — One of your responsibilities will be to monitor spend and budgets across teams, with support from the finance department. You understand and align your team with the client’s organizational goals and success measures.
