Cherry Hospital

A Place of Hope, Care, and Recovery

Cherry Hospital is currently seeking candidates for upcoming on-site CNA classes. If selected, you will be employed full-time and eligible for benefits.

During the course, the work schedule will typically be Monday through Friday, daytime hours, 40 hours per week. Employees will participate in classroom instruction, in-service training, on-the-job training, job shadowing and clinicals. The state testing for CNA certification is included in the course at no charge to the employee.

The Certified CNA will work as a Health Care Technician I (HCT I) and will be primarily responsible for providing direct care and person centered supports to residents with complex physical, intellectual, medical, and behavioral needs.   Hospital units for assignments are as follows:

-The Geriatric Admissions Unit provides treatment for patients 60 years and older. While most of the patients in the unit have confusion and/or disorientation associated with dementia, there are others with persistent mental illness.

Although patients are usually ambulatory, many suffer from age-related physical illnesses such as diabetes, hypertension, arthritis or cardiovascular disease. Most require some assistance with their basic needs. The objective of the unit is re-motivation, reorientation, and rehabilitation of patients in an effort to return them to their community and families.

  • The Medical Psychiatric Unit (MPU) is a unit for the treatment of psychiatric patients with physical illness who cannot be managed on a general psychiatric unit due to the nature and severity of the medical illness. Patients are admitted to this unit from other hospital units.

The primary goal of the MPU is the stabilization and treatment of the patient experiencing an acute medical. The primary focus of this position includes, but is not limited to providing active programming and ensuring safety of our patients, which is driven by individual patients' treatment plans.

  • The Adolescent Unit is a 22-bed unit which serves individuals from the age of 12-17 admitted to the hospital. The objective of the adolescent unit is multidisciplinary crisis stabilization, focusing on various psychiatric illness and behavioral challenges.

  • The Adult Acute Admissions Units consist of three patient care units, two male and one female. This unit's objective is for adult multidisciplinary crisis stabilization, with a focus on various psychiatric illness and behavioral changes. Patients transition from the AAU to the Independent Transition Unit (ITU).

  • Our Independent Transition Units (ITU) consist of four adult patient care units, three male and one female. Patients transition from the Admissions Units to the ITU with goals to achieve a life beyond inpatient hospitalization and transition back into the community.

The NC Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is one of the largest, most complex agencies in the state, with approximately 18,000 employees.  DHHS manages the delivery of health- and human-related services for all North Carolinians, especially our most vulnerable citizens - children, elderly, disabled and low-income families.

Cherry Hospital (CH) is a State-of-the-Art psychiatric hospital located in a beautiful rural area of Goldsboro, NC.  Although rural, Cherry Hospital is convenient to the Triangle Area (Raleigh/Durham) and the coastal region of the state. It is about an hour's drive to the heart of Raleigh or the beautiful coastal town of New Bern.
