Job Title: Health Care Technician I and II

Job Summary:

This is an opening for a full-time (40 hours per week) position at the Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes. The person hired will be responsible for assisting the eye clinic providers with patient scheduling, check-in, insurance coordination and patient work up as needed within the eye clinic.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Front desk services: Greeting patients, managing phone/communications, scheduling patients in EMR (EPIC), managing clinic metrics. Collecting, verifying and processing insurance, referrals and billing information

  • Patient Care as needed: Obtaining patient history, updating medications, preparing cleaning of exam rooms, performing preliminary testing, data entry into EPIC, communication with providers regarding patient history and chief complaint, retinal imaging using Optical Coherence Tomography, capture of retinal photographs and visual field testing.

Other skills include:

  • The ability to be self-directed, detail-oriented, and adaptable in a high-intensity team-oriented environment.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Effective customer service/communication to patients.

  • Phone/fax/computer operation (Microsoft Office and EMR).

  • Practicing good HIPAA and COMIRB compliance.

  • Knowledge and experience working with Type 1 Diabetes is highly desirable.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Health Care I:

  • Minimum of a high school diploma required
  • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.

Health Care II:

  • Minimum of a high school diploma required

  • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.

  • One year of work-related work experience.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2-4 years of work experience in a medical setting preferred.

  • Medical Assistant experience preferred but not required.

  • Electronic Medical Record and medical terminology knowledge highly desirable.

  • Fluidity in Spanish language

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as

Health Care Tech I: $39,719 - $46,074.

Health Care Tech II: $41,705-$48,377.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
