Murdoch Developmental Center is currently recruiting for a Health Care Technician II for 1st shift located at Arbor Cottage. This position reports to the Unit Manager and serves as a Supervisory  technician and monitors the care provided by the Health Care Technician I's providing feedback to staff as needed.  Job responsibilities include the following and other duties assigned:

  • Provides specialized direct services to adults with intellectual developmental disabilities, some of whom may have behavior problems and/or medical conditions.

  • Theses services are in the form of behavioral programming, habilitative training/activities, and in assisting with necessary health care needs.

  • In addition to direct personal care, this position carries out program goals to encourage independent functioning in all aspects of daily living.

  • accuracy and attention to detail are required for written and oral reporting

This is a full-time position and eligible for the full State benefits package including health insurance, paid sick/vacation/holidays, retirement, etc.

Normal working hours are on  1st shift 6:30 a.m.- 3:00 p.m., including some weekend  and Holidays. Some flexibility required to meet center's needs.

About Murdoch Developmental Center:

MDC is one of three regional developmental centers operating as part of the Division of State Operated Healthcare Facilities (DSOHF).  MDC in Butner serves 25 counties in central NC. Murdoch has approximately 1600 employees providing residential services and supports to people with IDD, complex behavioral challenges and/or medical conditions whose clinical treatment needs exceed the level of care available in the community.

 In addition to regional admissions for adults, MDC operates four statewide programs, which include support for children and adolescents with complex needs. Centrally located, MDC is convenient to Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill.  To be considered for employment, applicants must be in good standing with the North Carolina Health Care Personnel Registry.

  • Knowledge of approved behavioral intervention programs

  • To work with Multi-handicapped individuals having knowledge of basic health care, hygiene and safety and the appropriate protocols for medication administration when required

  •  Ability to document clear and concise notes of client progress and behaviors

  • Ability to communicate information clearly to family members and treatment team members positively and professional

  • Ability to follow-up on services being provided to the individuals to ensure needs are being met

Management Preferences:

Two years work experience in a healthcare support services setting.

Physical Requirements: Must  successfully complete the Murdoch Developmental Center "Basic Training Series"; which includes, but is not limited to program library training, First Aid, North Carolina Intervention Techniques (NCI), CPR, Body Mechanics and lifting.  Must have the ability to pass a physical requirements test.

This position DOES NOT require NA I certification.

High school or General Educational Development diploma and one year of related work experience;

or

an equivalent combination of education and experience.

As applicable, listing as a Nurse Aide II by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. Eligibility for Sign-on Bonus

Qualified applicants must be selected from the candidate pool of this posting and meet the State policy following requirements:

A newly hired permanent full time or permanent part-time employee who works 30 to 40 hours per week is eligible for a sign-on bonus (this will be prorated for employees working less than 40 hours per week).

An employee is not eligible for a sign-on bonus if:

(1) the employee has held a position in North Carolina State government, including the judicial system, or the University of North Carolina system within the last 12 months (the employee shall remain ineligible for 12 months from the separation date);

(2) the employee has previously received a sign-on bonus from any State agency;

(3) or DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.
