ABOUT THE POSITION

Long Beach Community College District is currently seeking one full-time tenure track Health Care Instructor (Medical Assisting) commencing with the 2019 fall semester. The primary teaching assignment involves classroom and laboratory instruction in all aspects of Medical Assisting and Medical Terminology. This assignment may also include instruction in medical coding and billing or other allied health related areas. It includes but is not limited to Vital Signs, patient care, patient assessment, front and back office skills, Phlebotomy, medications and dosages, electrocardiogram, lab testing, and insurance billing. Position responsibilities may also include clinical visitations and procurement of new clinical practicum sites. This assignment also includes curriculum development, participation in the shared governance process through work in normal professional activities, committee work, and student activities.

The position is Open Until Filled.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree and two years of experience in the discipline; OR

  • An Associate degree and six years of experience in the discipline; OR

  • Hold a valid credential to teach in the discipline; OR

  • The equivalent AND

  • Evidence of demonstrated cultural competency and enthusiasm in serving the diverse academic, socioeconomic, gender identity, sexual orientation, racial, and cultural backgrounds of community college student populations, including students with differing abilities (physical and/or learning), as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices within the classroom.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Teaching experience in a Medical Assistant Program or in nursing or health care.

  • Recent work experience in the nursing or health care field (experience with medical assisting is a plus).

  • Holds certification in Phlebotomy instruction.

  • Evidence of the ability to use a variety of teaching strategies that encourage retention while successfully challenging diverse student populations.

  • Ability to work effectively with computers and other forms of advanced technology which are utilized in providing high quality classroom instruction.

  • Desire and ability to participate actively in department, division, and college committees, and in the shared governance of Long Beach City College.

  • Evidence of an ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

The Job This role will support Health Care Informatics department by gathering, compiling, modeling, validating, and analyzing data needed by the company. Deliver actionable, supportable findings within tight deadlines and changing requirements. * Conduct data management, quality improvement studies, statistical analysis, and report generation. Requirements Your qualifications * Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent work experience) Required. * Master's Degree Preferred. * 5+ years of analytical experience, or 3+ years of analytical experience in a Healthcare/Managed Care environment required * MS Office required * MS SQL Server (Strong command over T-SQL) required * SQL Server Reporting Services and SQL Server Integration Services experience required. * SAS (Statistical Analysis System) experience preferred * Tableau BI tool experience preferred. * Ability to effectively interact with, and present findings to customers at all levels of the organization including operational managers, medical directors and executives required. * Clinical code knowledge (ICD, CPT, Rev Codes, etc.) related to medical claims/utilization data strongly preferred. * Experience with managed care contract terms/analysis a plus.
