The Employee Health & Benefits Consultant on the Enterprise division reports to Marsh & McLennan Agency's Managing Director of the division. In this role, the Consultant will be relied upon for insight and broad knowledge of health and welfare plans including all aspects of employee benefits for groups with 51-99 employees. The ideal Consultant will have knowledge of various health & benefit plan options available to small employer groups. This person will thrive in an environment where they can align a client's long term business strategies with their benefit plan options and are comfortable putting forth recommendations and presenting additional lines of business to existing clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply working knowledge of employee benefit plans including medical, dental, life, disability, FSA, HRA, HSA, COBRA and general HR questions

  • Develop and manage long and short range benefit strategies for clients, and foster strong client relationships

  • Serve as a subject matter expert to clients in areas of Health & Welfare compliance (i.e. HIPAA, FMLA, COBRA, 5500, DOL, etc).

  • Manage the RFP process for new & prospective clients. As well as the Renewal and Implementation processes.

  • Manage the post-implementation process for all lines of coverage.

  • Coordinate, develop, and execute Project plans, as well as periodic presentations for specific client groups

  • Benchmark survey data for client plans, summarize and validate reviewed information.

  • Develop and maintain strong vendor relationships; may require local travel to client sites.

  • Become well-versed in all of Marsh & McLennan Agencies practices in order to articulate our services and value proposition to prospective clients & recruits

  • Support New Business/Sales initiatives and identifying opportunities including client prospecting and offering/conducting benefits assessments

  • Bachelors Degree; advanced degree preferred but not required

  • 3 years of experience in brokerage or insurance industry experience with a thorough understanding of medical plans

  • Strong knowledge of multiple ancillary plans; dental, life, STD, LTD, etc., design, rate structures, funding alternatives and compliance requirements.

  • Excellent communication and presentation with advanced writing skills.

  • Proficient in Health & Welfare compliance (i.e. HIPAA, FMLA, COBRA, 5500, DOL, etc.)

  • LAH Licensure or commitment to achieving within 6 months of start date.

  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office suite

  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with all levels of internal staff & management, external clients, prospects and vendors.

Responsible for providing optimum customer service and satisfaction to internal and external customers. Responsible for obtaining and utilizing information needed for procedure reimbursement based on organizational, commercial, federal and state regulatory guidelines. Responsible for maintaining and providing internal and external reports as required and other related duties. Responsibilities Screens scheduled and unscheduled patients for insurance eligibility and benefits by department discipline established by Manager. Ensures verification of exam approvals and/or authorizations. Resolves discrepancies within position responsibility. Generates report of all pre-booked exams following standard procedures. Ensures information is accurate. Obtains missing information and documents in computer system. Contacts patients as appropriate. Informs patients of any additional information required prior to exam or any needed documentation to present at the time of exam. Obtains procedure approvals from insurance carriers as appropriate. Identifies and obtains pre-authorization from insurance carriers that require pre-authorization. Corrects charging codes, insurance plans and insurance history and other required information to assure an accurate financial record in the computer system. Identifies any incorrect information and updates the system or notifies the appropriate staff of discrepancy. Produces a variety of reports regarding verification process. Distributes reports to appropriate areas and/or staff members. Participates in a variety of special projects such as annual audits, report reviews, etc as required or directed. Performs a variety of clerical functions such as data entry, copying, faxing, etc. Complies with health and safety requirements and with regulatory agencies such as DPH, etc. Complies with established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives. Enhances professional growth and development through educational programs, seminars, etc. Attends a variety of meetings, conferences, and seminars as required or directed. Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed. Regular, reliable and predicable attendance is required. Qualifications High School Diploma and additional specialized courses. One to three years experience with third party billing and systems. Knowledge of ICD9 coding process and claims denials. Proficient in medical terminology. Proficient in use of office equipment, telephones, copier, fax machine, etc. Demonstrated knowledge of a variety of software products such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, etc. Excellent interpersonal, communication and organization skills.
