This position will receive a minimum of 3 weeks Paid-Time Off, Holiday Pay, Full-time benefits to include Medical, Dental, Vision, Life insurance, a Retirement 403(b) pension plan upon eligibility and a Free YMCA Membership.

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the guidance from the Director, the Health & Wellness Coordinator is responsible for promotion, supervision, and evaluation of the following areas: fitness, group exercise, and personal training.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assist the Director in planning and implementing health and wellness programs and initiatives.

  • Create group exercise and wellness staff schedules.

  • Attend regular scheduled "Management Team" meetings.

  • Attend appropriate and required training classes offered by the YMCA of San Antonio.

  • Assist Director with maintenance of staff records in accordance with any and all regulatory agencies and the YMCA.

  • Assist as needed in completing payroll on a weekly basis for the Health and Wellness Department.

  • Promote the "YMCA Story" with all involved in the program.

  • Maintain safe program areas, including indoor and outdoor areas, YMCA and non-YMCA facilities, and equipment.

  • Maintain clean centers and help to monitor cleaning maintenance crew.

  • Maintain accurate inventory all equipment related to the program.

  • Follow accident reporting procedures and policies.

  • Follow systems, practices, and training related to risk management and safety of participants and staff.

  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A HS Diploma or GED is required. Prefer a 2 year college degree in a Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation or health related field. Will accept experience in lieu of college degree.

  • Requires training and certifications in YMCA fitness programs, especially YMCA specialist training or equipment.

  • Requires training, certifications or experience with group exercise, program development, YMCA fitness programs or YMCA specialist training or equipment.

  • Personal leadership and commitment to health and wellness is important.

  • Must understand the basic concepts of a non-profit organization, as well as the structure of the YMCA as a partnership of volunteers and staff, and accept a commitment to the

  • Requires knowledge of computer software application and hardware. Employee must have working knowledge of Windows Office Suite.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Employee must have working knowledge of a Mac environment, Gmail, and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Certifications required within the first week of hire: Bloodborne Pathogens, Hazardous Communications, and Defensive Driving.

  • Certifications required within the first 60 days of hire: YMCA approved basic life saving skills such as CPR, First Aid, AED. This position must have the ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.

  • Must be 21 years of age, have a valid driver's license, as well as capacity to drive to various locations within the greater San Antonio metropolitan area.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work is performed in a fast-paced wellness floor/office environment and requires occasional work in off-site locations.

  • Visual acuity is required for reading computer screens and/or documents and making changes as necessary.

  • Job requires high levels of alertness and concentration.

  • Repetitive stooping and bending with occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds is required.

  • Ability to sit for long periods at a time is also required.

  • Ability to stand for at least 1 hour for presentations important.

  • Employee must be able to hear, speak and understand the words of others, as well as, the ability to manipulate keyboards, telephone keypads, writing utensils is essential.
